This seems to have less potential for serious bodily injury than barbed wire on top of a chain link fence.

The same could be said for the aforementioned dogs, which seem to be popular suggestions here when people talk about home security. When I was exposed to pepper spray, I was fine the next day and it left no lasting scars. When I was bit by a dog, it took weeks for the wound to heal and I still have the scar (serious bodily injury?) years later. So if I was on the jury, a pepper spray dispenser rigged inside the house would be a provably much lower level of force than a dog running loose inside the house.
