As an instructor not associated with a shop or range my opinion may be a different from a student’s. Sometimes stuff happens and you have to cancel a class. I give the students a much notice as possible. When they sign up they are informed of my policy on cancelation and refunds. I also have a working relation with two instructors that can cover a class for me.
I wish students would show me as much consideration. I turn people away because I have a full class only to have several no shows! How do I find reputable students

Every prepaid student is reputable.

Absolutely, and I give a discount for pre pay. But about half my students are pay at the door.

If I paid the store and the class was canceled, I would ask them for a refund. If they argued, I would dispute the charge, and could truthfully tell the credit card company (a) I did not receive the service I ordered and (b) I contacted the merchant in person and they refused to refund my money.
I understand people get sick, but poor customer service from the gun store staff present, well, that's a deal breaker.

Don't know when he became "ill", just know that he didn't show up and didn't notify anyone that he was not coming.
Not saying this applies to this situation, but I can tell you that in my 15 years as a service manager EVERY TIME I had to look for a tech who was a no show on a Saturday morning it turned out that he had a little too much fun on Friday night.

Not really, they normally are, however I have had a few prepaid that never showed up or called for a refund .

Easy money I guess.
A local Gun SHop signs people up for me too and they collect $25 deposit. 35 % of those that pay a deposit NEVER show up.
I guess people have more money to throw away than I do.

That was certainly my first thought as well.

Ah! The brown bottle flu as we used to call it.
We spent about the same amount of time as "Service Managers"....sure as heck don't miss it.

Every time I ever worked for someone else I was expected to call if I couldn't come in. Maybe I'm the exception but I managed to do that, even the time I was in the hospital.

I noticed March 18th and May 6th have a statistically significant spike of people calling in sick.

Just heard from coworker - store refused to refund money. Only offered a store credit. Next step is to challenge charges with CC company.
As far as I'm concerned this store has lost all credibility.

WOWSERS....I'm not a laywer (obviously!

)...but that sounds like theft to me...post up their info...burn 'em publicly. Remember, truth is a defense to libel.

Thanks and I hope they name names. If a store doesnt deliver what a customer paid for, and refuses to refund the customer's money, that deserves at least as much exposure as a gun store owner suggesting a ban on online ammo sales.

I'm the co-worker JMRA has been posting about. As it stands, my husband and I are waiting to take the CHL class in November from another instructor in Ennis. It's not as convenient as the first scheduled class b/c that one was really close to where we live. Needless to say, we are not very pleased with Shooter's Edge (Waxahachie) b/c they would not refund our $240.00 (2 @ $120.00). We could have already taken our class from another location (Duncanville) who are much more accommodating. After all we will have to travel a distance either way now. We really want to build a nice relationship with a local gun store, since becoming a licensed carrier is a very important life decision. Thus far, we have not had a very good experience with our local store. It's really unfortunate.
