I think I was last in NOLA about 30 years ago. At that rate, I should be back when I'm about a 100.

I don't understand the logic of booting an illegally parked car. I assume there is a reason you don't want the car there or it wouldn't be illegally parked. By booting the car you ensure that it will remain where you don't want to be even longer.

It's the same logic behind arresting someone committing a crime instead of just running them off. If you just make them leave, there is no deterrence. But if they have to pay to get the boot removed, they suffer a penalty for their act.

Update: http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/sideshow/st ... 52728.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
WWLTV.com reports that the convenience store employee has been fired and issued a citation by the New Orleans Police Department for simple criminal damage to property. According to the police report, the man, Ahmed Sidi Aleywa, claimed that he didn't know that the vehicle was an ambulance and that he doesn't speak English.
So it was an act of terrorism. Send him to Gitmo .... oh wait, we don't have any terrorists in this country anymore unless they are Tea Partiers. :roll:

There's your sign ...

If the guy doesn't know what an ambulance looks like in this country, then he necessarily can't know any given car isn't one and shouldn't be booting anything until he figures it out. Of course, it's a bit of a moot point now, since he's been fired.

Booting is about revenue. That is also sometimes true about towing.

I guess I was suggesting towing as opposed to booting.

Booting gets more instant payment with less expense to the store.

In some places, the boot is a pre-cursor to a tow. Basically, the boot keeps the illegally car parked where it is until a tow truck can arrive. Then the owner of the car would have to pay the fine for illegal parking plus the tow fee, and if left longer than a day, lot/storage fees. I'm not sure how the pay-off works for the store doing the booting other than only customers parking there.

Interference with a public servant in the discharge of his duties, unlawful detention, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, illegally making an emergency vehicle unacessable, practicing medicine without a license, patient endangerment, someone needs to be in jail for a long time, the patient needs to sue the store all employees on duty the owners, the franchisee and franchiser, the city needs to revolk any licenses the store has. and the store needs to close down due to insolvenancy.

So the cashier should be sued for this? Let us not forget the manufacturer and distributor of the boot and the official and the city that granted the building permit that resulted in this contested parking situation.

there ya go, it seems harsh but it will put an end to putting boots or any other interference with an emergency vehicle and persons. as far as the city official, not sure if LA or NO has anykind of ordanace or law regarding boots like here in texas, not sure if the have the laws that protect emergency vehicles or resonders, if they do them hmm well
