I don't see legalized marijuana, prostitution, and dealing with antisocial behavior to be in the same "pot," so to speak. This country already has more people in prison than any other civilized country. Most Europeans think we're completely insane about firearms. I'm not too interested in their opinion on that subject.

I find it difficult to distinguish between this proposition and the institution of concentration camps before and during WWII. The very meaning of "concentration camp" in the beginning was a place to concentrate those with unacceptable behavior. The term came to mean something quite different and horrible later.

We might remember that citizens of the Netherlands did not have the greatest general reputation for resisting Nazism. We only need to recall a young lady named Anne Frank.

Living in shipping containers? With a 24-hour police presence? Does that not bring back memories to those who lived back then? (I realize that there are not a lot of us left.)

Before we move to adopt such a system here in our country I do hope we give history an early and lengthy look.

The U.S. has about 2 million people in prison, which is about 1% of the adult population. About 7 million in the U.S. are in some form of supervision, such as probation, parole, or a sex offender registry. Many more have felony convictions, which make them the new "untouchable" class.

At least those people did something illegal that could be proved in court to deserve such treatment.

The Nazis imprisoned, tortured, and executed people for what they were (race, ethnic group, religion, disability, or sexual orientation), not for their voluntary acts.

Since the Nazis have been introduced to the discussion, I'm out of here. Bye.

Interesting. It sounds like those sentenced to Amsterdam's scum village would have more freedom than those sentenced to your local jail. What are you doing about the concentration camps in your back yard?
