I have a theory that they know full well none of this legislation will pass, but they are gambling that the public sentiment supports their ideas for gun bans and when they fail they can tell the public "See, we tried our best but the evil child killing Republicans blocked it!"

I especially liked how they had the cop up there claiming nobody needed such high-powered rifles to hunt... Isn't it illegal in some states to hunt with an AR-15 because it's too low-powered to humanely kill the animal?

No, it just means they weren't specifically mentioned. Note it says ALL AR types, "including"......

Did you notice that Hi Point carbines, Kel tecs, Cetmes, FNFALs are included as ARs?

notice the semi-colons used along the way in the list. I believe the semi-colon is a seperator.
