I took mine out of my Ruger SR9c. What if your mag gets released in a fight? Being able to at least fire the round in the chamber could save your life. If you follow the 4 safety rules you don't need a mag safety or really any safety. Some exceptions being a drop safety or a thumb safety on a 1911. You should never trust a mechanical safety anyway. They can and do fail.

It just blows my mind that people can have an ND when they are cleaning or examining a gun. How hard is it to remember to check, unload, and double-check a gun before cleaning it or showing it to a friend?!

When it comes to guns, the word "mandatory" sounds a bit hoplophobic...

I own a Ruger SR9c. I have not taken the magazine disconnect safety out. However, I didn't buy it because it has one of those, either. I bought it because it fits my hand well and seems to feed pretty much everything I have put through it and I've had a good run with Ruger products. I would have been just as happy with it had it not had the magazine disconnect in it. The only reason I haven't pulled it out, I guess, is because I've never taken it that far apart before, just down to the major sub-assemblies. It cleans pretty easily without disassembling it completely. If I had to disassemble it all the way, I might leave it out when I put it back together. I think a magazine disconnect is kind of of something that's really not necessary.

I think it should be mandatory for people who want to impose dangerous things on me for "my safety" to be held under water for at least one hour after the bubbles stop.
