My youngest son is in 6th grade. My wife and I get the biggest kick out of him talking about who is going out with who. My oldest son is in the 8th grade. When he talks about who is going out with who, he gets a lecture from his Mom about which girls he should be "talking to" and which girls he should be "running from". I'm with Mom on this one. While I admire his sense of adventure, my nerves would be shot. Lol. Hubby took DD on a flight around the islands back when he was taking lessons. I told him not to come back without her.

Was he flying that thing himself?? That is so cool! The closest I ever got to flying was the time I jumped out the second story window with a sheet. Kinda' goes along with 'me' and 'I'. For instance, "....you talkin' to I"?

He is with an instructor but he is doing all of the flying. The earliest you can solo is 14. He turns 14 next month but he only has 22 flights under his belt. That's great... That appears to be a G103, which, like you son, I learned to fly on when young.
My experience was that the instructors are much tougher on the young ones - they don't want any problems on record.
When he wants a powered aircraft, there was a G109 in central Texas is still part of the glider category.
