This rifle began life as a mk12 mod 1 build, but quickly recieved many "operator specific" changes:

mid length gas system ( no hiccups yet, have used rifle, and carbine extensions)

troy trx extreme: much thinner than the kac rail

magpul flip ups : cheaper and with mid length i didnt want to spend for the gas block soght just for looks

SEI coast guard brake: just happened to be offered one in trade, and took it. I may add the ops brake and collar soon.

I recently changed to a ubr stock as well.


this rifle is my most reliable rifle. i have fed it everything from handloads to m855, nosler custom loads, and plenty of wolf and tulammo.

the 1:7 twist SPR barrell from white oak armory likes 75gr TAP the best!

Ok, I'll bite... Why is the scope on backwards?

in case you were not kidding , it seems all manufacturers have been making 24mm obj scopes backward for some time now.


the big plus with these scopes is the very long, very forgiving eye relief. In fact thats why the mount cantilevers so far forward. lots of peripheral vision woth these scopes, great for varmints at close range, and the true 1x lets you use both eyes open.

From what I've read .45 travels farthest in Sheetrock. Almost 2-3xs further than .233/5.56. And for me I'm a hell of a lot more confident with my AR/aimpoint than my pistols

my sibling had an Ad with .45 ...

we are very fortunate noone was hurt.

even with HP ammo that .45 slug penetrated 3 walls ( 6 layers of sheet rock) and went into a bathroom door across the hall then into an oak panel where the bullet finnally stopped.

scary stuff.


id reccomend frangible bullets for HD

Indeed. That really drives home the "be sure of your backstop" rule of gun safety.

imho/fwiw:

The past few builds I have built all have been mid length gas systems on both 14.5" & 16" barrels.

The carbine 7" length gas length was designed for the 14.5" M4. The 16" AR15 carbine was introduced for the civilian market to meet fed. reg.
With the 16"/carbine gas came higher pressures and faster cycling times with the same 5.56NATO ammo. The mid length gas system has even'd out the pressure and IMHO, cycling rate. I've used them with H & H2 buffers and they eat everything I have thrown at them. All running full weight BCG. The key to any of these gas system layouts is port size. One manuf. will differ from the other. Of course the ones that run right have pretty equivalent gas ports.

To add: 18" I still prefer a rifle length gas system, but few friends have mid length 18" custom uppers and no worries, all run as they should = smooth :)
