Legal drinking age in all states is 21. The only exceptions are some states, inclufding Texas, allow minors to consume alcohol if they are with their parents or legal guardian.

Was Louisiana the last hold out on that? I seem to recall the Feds holding the "carrot" of no federal highway funding unless the state raised the age to 21....

It's interesting how the reporting can change our perspective of the story. From the Post article, it seems pretty straight-forward. The article I read had several things that clearly suggest the homeowner was in the right and that made me really wonder about the deceased. There were also several things that thoroughly ticked me off.

Of course, I can't find the article now. Great. Anyway, the version I read went on and on about what a great kid the boy was. "Oh, my boy was an angel." Really? He was drunk at 2:30 in the morning breaking into someone's house? An angel? I have to wonder what evidence they have that the kid wasn't there to do harm. He climbed through a window, which set off an alarm. Hmm, is that what usually happens in your own house? According to the story I read, the homeowner confronted him at the stairway and fired a warning shot after telling him to stop. Ok so shouldn't that have been a slight clue you're in the wrong place? Then (again according to the version I read) the kid got shot as he passed the homeowner in the hallway, heading for the bedrooms where the family was. Again, I have to wonder what was up that this kid wasn't slowed by any of that. I fired my 9mm pistol without hearing protection outside once. It literally rung my ears. I can't imagine what that sound would be like inside a house. If that doesn't get the attention of someone coming toward me and my family in the middle of the night, then I'm assuming I've got a looney on my hands with some serious intent.

The part that really made me mad was the quote they had from the intruder's mother. She said, to the homeowner, "I just want you to know I forgive you." I forgive you?!?!? Really? Who gives a crap whether you forgive him? Perhaps we should be considering the feelings of the actual victim here. You know, the guy who's family was attacked and who was forced to shoot to defend them?

18+ could drink in bars in LA well into the 90's, I remember going to Shreveport on the weekends.
