If it is possible to escape the area safely, do so quietly.
If you Cannot safely exit the building, seek shelter in a room where the doors can be locked or barricaded securely.
Do not open the door until you can be positive that it is a police officer coming to help you.
Phew! I thought you were going to tell me that I have to blow a whistle, defecate, and tell him that I'm menstruating.......and I wasn't sure how I was going to pull that last one off.......without holding up the repair work......
I thought we were supposed to use scissors for self defense, I mean that is what DHS says right?
Only if you are a teacher.... And probably only if school is in session..... :banghead:

As a woman, i find it very uncomfortable to have an unknown repairman in my home, but as a CHL holder I can't imagine entering an unknown person's home without it. But I would think a repairman would do everything in his power to be 110% concealed to avoid any issues though? I know many women who would freak out if the "strange" guy in the kitchen had his weapon showing.

You made a good point MolonLabe. I can see how that could definitely make a woman all alone at home be uncomfortable.
I guess the biggest thing is to make sure the weapon is secure and by no means have an accidental exposure. Once I realized I was at a safe location, maybe best to just put in in the van.

you never know what is a safe location....church should be safe...

my suggestions, would be a fanny pack (most people are going to think you have tools in it), a deep concealment pack, like a thunderpack? (I know I'm getting the word wrong, but I'm close I think?), or one of those undershirts with the holster up higher under the arm. Your job has you moving alot, these ideas should make it easier to stay covered. Make sure your work shirt fits loose enough and you'll be fine.

My concern is, you'll be going into a home with only women, probably most of the time. I know that when I have any workman here, even if my husband is here, my anxiety level goes up a notch, I know where my kids are and where he is, at all times. I might not comment if I see a gun, knowing he might have a CHL, but you know at that point I would go, arm myself, if I haven't already and never, ever let him out of my sight.

Also, what happens if you go into the home of an ardent anti- ?

IF your doing work like a plumber might have to (or are a plumber...LOL) consider a holster like the Kangaroo Carry.. IMO, much better then a fanny pack, though not as good as an IWB like a super tuck, and of course even less good then a properly fitted OWB with a good gun belt.

But Our daily tasks and required clothing wear dictates what is best for each of us. I have worn my carry gun in two different holsters today based on what i had to do, and wear.

A good belt might be a good idea for plumbers even if they're not carrying a gun. Just saying.

I'm in the same boat. I'm a stay-at-home mom and I really dislike having strange men in the house when it's just the kids and me. (Heck, that's one of the reasons I own a gun!) On the other hand, if I were working in a strange house I would certainly feel better armed -- so don't take that to mean that I think you shouldn't carry on the job.

I would say that if I had a strange (previously unknown to me) repair man in the house and I noticed he was carrying, I would feel more at ease if the gun appeared to be carried in some sort of legitimate setup. Whether that's a good belt and holster, or a shoulder holster, or some of the other suggestions... something that looks like you regularly and responsibly carry a gun. Red flags would be going up if it looked like you'd just added it as an afterthought (say, it's sticking out of your pocket or lying around in your tool bag). I guess it's the difference between, "oh, looks like he carries a gun" and "hm, looks like he picked up a gun somewhere and brought it with him for some reason...". I'm not sure if that's logical; just gut feeling.

Now, because I don't like having strangers in the house, we have a couple of handyman type guys we work with on a regular basis when we need work done. I know those guys well and I'm completely comfortable with them around. If I saw a gun on either of those guys, I wouldn't bat an eye. And if they can't do something for me they recommend someone else, and I'd be relatively comfortable with someone they'd recommended to me. I don't know how much of your business is with people you have a working relationship with, but that may be a factor.

awwwww man you take all the fun out of things! "rlol"

OP I don't believe I'd do a thing, nor say anything. to me its not a problem if its in a holster, if its just stuffed in the waist of his pants I might say hey be careful with that way of carrying

Well I apologize for the Mae West reference. It was a bit off-color, although I thought it would be over the heads of 10 year old daughters. I did not mean to offend. But my second post was not an attempt to be crude, but rather a jest echoing the singularly bad advice given by democrats to women being assaulted, in response to handog's jesting advice run away and hide. Again, my apologies

Probably is over the head of the 10yr olds but there are mature ladies on the board that do remember May West.
If it really is funny then gentlemen talk you wife into using it as a greeting & see how funny that is.

No sir. Fun board here. Stuff like that belongs on TGT. Standards here are why we have SO MANY ladies on this board.
There is a character difference between ladies & women.
Sir, I say this all the time in person to folks, "If May West famous statement is good humor get your wife to use it as an intro line when you introduce her. Then see how funny it is."
