I've never heard the term used in any media outlet. I've only heard it used here on this forum and when speaking face to face with anyone one from this forum. Do you have any examples of the term being used in the media?

No problem, but as I said, it's already an understood term worldwide, changing an idiom in an entire language worldwide isn't going to happen.

It's like asking people to stop saying "McFries" or something; it brings good advertising/exposure for the company to which it refers. Whereas any decision to post signs as a defenseless victim zone can be researched as to results, both in losing money/business and lives as criminals choose to exploit criminal safe zones.

I accept that you are posting this to try to help, but it's a worldwide thing that just 1 forum wouldn't change.

Pepsi has been trying to stop people from using Coke as the universal term for soft drink for many moons. Still hasn't happened. Not implying the term "wally walk" is nearly as widely used or recognized as Coke.

Interesting. Why would their feathers be so ruffled over law abiding people exercising their rights inconspicuously when they've got the "People of WalMart" doing far more damage to WalMart's image?

Love 'em or hate 'em, nobody argues with Starbucks' success in the coffee world. They are sort of the "Wal-Mart of Coffee." In fact, Wal-Mart sells Starbucks coffee.

Starbucks has been, to date, a model of how large corporations ought to react to the Chicken Littles of the anti-gun crowd. Anti-gun activists tried to press Starbucks into barring customers in open-carry states from carrying their firearms into Starbucks—either for fear that the combination of caffeine and gunpowder might prove deadly, or that...heaven forbid.....someone would express and enjoy a constitutional right detested by Chicken Little. Starbucks' response? In effect, it was: "Not our issue. We are not going to get involved in your politics, regardless of what they happen to be. We'll run our company according to our own internal guidelines ("fair-trade," etc.), but we are not going to get involved in your politics because it would be inappropriate for a corporation with a very broad customer base to do so." In other words, they did not take a stand. And that is good for business.

It may well be that Wally World is considering posting such restrictions in its stores. That's fine, I don't particularly enjoy going there, and I have alternatives. As others have pointed out, Target, HEB, and others are not posted. I dislike going to those stores too, but if Wally wants to shut me out, I'm fine with it, I'll go to the others. If they ALL post 30.06, I'll buy my groceries online or just give more of my business to smaller mom & pop stores.....who frankly, can use the money.

And the thing is, any such action by Wally would likely include more than just Texas 30.06. It would likely to do the equivalent in other states as well, many of which also have very strong pro-gun populations. So they aren't risking just alienating 40,000 Texan shoppers (the 10% or so of CHL holders who actually do carry regularly), they'll also be alienating a significant portion of the populations of all those other states as well. All told, that is a lot of customers. Can they survive it? Sure they can, but they will have also started a landslide reaction among all conservatives and libertarians who will begin to spend their shopping dollars elsewhere in solidarity with the ideal of gun rights, whether or not they are themselves gun owners/carriers. The end result is that Wally will become known as the chain that the democrat party bought.

THAT would be very bad for their business; and one of the reasons that Wally is successful is because they play long-ball. Long-ball takes account the future what-ifs, not just the immediate social gratification. It could happen, but I doubt that they're that stupid.

I have purposely altered some of my shopping habits and locations due to the plastic bag ban in Austin. I would have no problem cutting Wal-Mart out of my stops either if 30.06 were put in place there. I know many others who think likewise.

I can't believe this issue even made Wal Mart's radar screen. I would hope they're dealing with bigger issues than this.

I try hard to support businesses that support me and my rights. I can't say I would never spend money there again, but I'd work hard not to.

Wal Mart used to be known as pro-American-made as far as their manufacturers and suppliers go but now I think they have deteriorated into a company that is only concerned with the bottom line.

Based on the number of other options, it wouldn't bother me if Wal Mart decided to do this. Target Walk has a much better ring to it anyway (we could probably come up with some t-shirts or something)...

This is ONE topic on ONE conference call and you're asking for thousands of CHL members on this board to change their habits; a change, already mentioned, that would, in no way, curb the behavior of others across the country.
That's a bit of a knee-jerk reaction, don't you think?

Businesses will do what they want to do for the business.
Some things will be very good and some will be very bad, depending on how thorough and accurate the analysis of the situation.

As said earlier, Starbucks made a good analysis and their business benefited.
Others have made bad decisions (even gun related businesses like CTD) and they've been burned severly - most likely permanently.

In America, we have a myriad of choices on where to spend our bucks....WalMart, Target, Kohls, etc.

If one company makes it effortless to do business with them, that's who gets the income.
Others who put down roadblocks or hinderances, they get left out; and the bottom line will quickly show it.

When businesses make changes, be it advertisments or changes to store hours or changes to conditions required to shop there, they track the day-over-day, week-over-week and month-over-month sales to see the impact.

When a (well-run) business sees a sharp drop (or increase) in customer traffic, sales, etc.
they quickly tie it back to the change and try to recreate it or avoid it.
If not, then they can answer to their shareholders and stakeholders about the matter.

IIRC, this is derogatory from the "Summer Vacation" movie which was a satirical representation of Disneyland.

I call WalMart Wally World all the time. I can guarantee I will be doing it even more energetically now that I know it actually bothers someone.
