Fortune Magazine weighing in with 10 reasons I hate Apple.
Those may be your reasons, but it seems obvious to me that the author was jesting and doesn't share your opinion. Quoting the article with my responses in red:
  • Apple is arrogant. "Apple designs Macs, the best personal computers in the world..."* [It's true....they ARE the best computers in the world....]
  • Apple is closed. Look at the walls around the App Store. [Uuuuhhhh....what?]
  • Apple wants total dominance. Remember Adobe Flash? [The most recent version of Android OS has also dropped Flash support, and with good reason. Flash is a pig in a poke.]
  • Apple is greedy. What's it doing with $144.7 billion? [Who cares? It's CAPITALISM baby! Is there something wrong with profit?]
  • Apple's stuff is overpriced. I can buy a Dell for $299. [So what? For $299, your Dell is a piece of crap that not even most PC buyers would buy.]
  • Apple's stuff doesn't work. Just look at the Maps app. [Again, so what? Interwebs Exploder is the worst browser ever made, and yet all PC's come with it pre-installed, just like Apple's Maps app on iPhones. You can get Google's or Wayze's excellent navigation apps for your iPhone.......just like lots of Windoze users will replace Interwebs Exploder with Firefox or Chrome right after they boot their machines up for the first time.]
  • Apple is the darling of Wall Street. $705 a share? [That's a bit dated....the current price is $452.97. Even so, the market set the price, and the value is what it is, as decided by the market.]
  • Apple is Wall Street's goat. Mr. Market has spoken. [That's a bit dated....the current price is $452.97. Even so, the market set the price, and the value is what it is, as decided by the market.]
  • Apple has lost its mojo. Just one name: Tim Cook. [You're saying that "mojo" is a strictly heterosexual thing?]
  • Apple is doomed. R.I.P. Steve Jobs. [As long as Apple sticks to Jobs' vision, they'll be fine. It has served them well so far. We'll see, won't we?]

In February I upgraded from a Motorola Droid X to the Motorola Droid Razr HD. It seems to work a lot better than the X that I had. Much faster and not as clunky as the previous o/s's. The battery sure lasts a heck of a lot longer which was a big plus in my book. :thumbs2:

Actually one of the biggest reasons I switched was because of Apple's anti-gun policies.
Jim, this is not an attack against you. I'm just addressing the sentiment you expressed in that second sentence.....

I don't know specifically what Apple's "anti-gun policies" are, although I am sure that they do exist. . .
Interesting read, but actually my change is ancient history (70s), and it just rankles me to send give them any money after all these years of avoiding giving them money. And there, at this point, is a wealth of alternate choices that work just as well. I am sure I am not causing them a ding in the bottom line, but again . . .

LoL. This caused a stir.....

I'm more along the same line as MagicGlock. I absolutely LOVE my MacBook, and I'll never go back to a windows computer again. Ever. Apple has done it right with their laptops, desktops, and tablets as far as I'm concerned. Their phones are just... Antiquated.

They work well, that's not being contested by me. But I got tired of how limited my iPhone was. Once CNET started reporting on the HTC One being a possible iPhone killer... With a solid aluminum body to boot, I started researching. The plastic build quality of previous android devices has kept me away for a while-- I took advantage of HTC doing the right thing here.

I'm not sorry. I miss some things... The camera in the iPhone 5 was limited in function, but it worked really well. The camera in my One is awesome, especially with all its related software... But the pic quality isn't as good.

One of the biggest things that drove me away from the iPhone was screen size. There are things that iOS does better such as copy/paste, predictive text is better IMO and their messaging is a wee bit better.

I was lured to Android because of my heavy Google usage, larger screen size, menu system including home screen widgets and overall a greater level of customization. My phone is laid out how I like, not how the Apple overlords thinks it should be.

I will say the S3 battery life is terrible compared to my iPhone 4.

Battery life is one of the reasons I've stayed with the iPhone. Retina display is the other. Possibly switching providers soon. Will look at all the smart phones again if we do.

Root the Samsung phones and remove all the Samsung Bloatware that constantly does useless updates and your battery will last for days!

I've disabled a lot of that software already. I even turn my WiFi, GPS and Bluetooth off when not in use to help preserve battery. I'd like to avoid rooting my phone if at all possible.

I actually have the exact opposite opinion, while I own a macbook air and enjoy using it. I still prefer windows to OSX (this could come from the field I work in) while OSX is a very easy to use OS and is great for a home computer that is used for school work or browsing the web I couldnt ever have it as my primary PC (the only exceptions are those of you who work in the Video / photography / biology fields)

I would be interested in what people think is Antiquated about the iOS and what big features their andriod phones have that the iphone is lacking though. :tiphat:

and for anyone interested here is a review on the iphone 5 cameras vs the HTC one. end result, it depends on what you use your camera for. you will generally get better low light phones with the HTC one and better colors on well lit photos with the iphone5

Hmm. By antiquated I mean that nothing has really changed since the 3G. They added Siri (meh) and a few integrated software things like Facebook & twitter... But otherwise iOS is business as usual for the last 6 years. This may very well be because it WORKS. I dunno, I don't support change for the sake of change, but I suppose I more or less simply grew tired of the status quo.

I'm not going to go so far as to say the Android is better than iOS, but it definitely allows the user to do more. Don't like the way your screens or apps are arranged? No prob. Don't like your keyboard? No prob. I'm enjoying the freedom that the HTC gives me.... But I agree that the utopia set up, regulated, and enforced by Apple in their phones is comfortable. It just got boring.

Oh, and the battery on my HTC One lasts all day under heavy use. My iPhone 5 couldn't do that :(

Thats a fair point of view, I dont think one is better then the other, but I also dont think one is any worse. while their have not been a lot of big changes in iOS. I run into a lot of people who seem to be under the impression that their are tons of ground breaking features that Android offers that iOS cant match. while in reality the differences are mostly related to user interface customization which can be a very good reason to pick android, but not necessarily ground breaking.

on a side note, a coworker just purchased the HTC One this weekend and I do admit it is a pretty slick phone.

I'm not sure what you mean by "don't like the way your screens or apps are arranged." My iPhone 4 allows me to move app icons around and decide which ones will appear on my 'home' screen and which ones won't. And you can add app icons to the toolbar at the bottom of the screen if you want to.....although I don't know why you'd want to.

I agree that it hasn't appeared to change much over the years, but that's because it works. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, and all that.... Yes, the screen could be bigger, but at what point are you preferring to have a tablet instead of a phone? What I have is a phone that does some other things. I have a MacBook Air (13") for when I need portable screen or computing power greater than what's on my phone, and it doesn't weigh that much. Speaking to zero4o3's comment about OSX and work, I'm a website designer with a side order of photography and garnish of video editing. Mac is perfect for that.

In the end, we all tend to relate to our computers and mobile devices by how they integrate into both our work and private lives; and since we are all unique individuals, different platforms are going to be better or worse for people individually, according to how their own lives work out. I can no more say that my iPhone is a better cellphone than your HTC or someone else's Samsung than you or the other person could say the same to me about your product choices. For me the iOS devices are a better choice, but other than gigging someone for a little fun, I would never say that the Samsung ain't squat. And if I lived my life differently than I do, then maybe the Samsung would be a better choice. I recognize that the iPhone has limits. For instance, with my fat fingers, even with the screen rotated sideways, the "keys" are a little small for me. But I don't see how they could be made much bigger and still make the rest of the screen usable. With cellphones, it's always going to be a compromise, regardless of your chosen platform. It really comes down to a matter of choosing which compromise works best for you as an individual, and recognizing that your choice of compromise may not be best for someone else.

What I am truly thankful for is that we live in a society where we actually have those choices.

Android works on a concept of having a home screen with 5 pages of screens where you can put shortcuts to applications and a variety of widgets for things like alarms, turning the light on to use as a flash light, weather, traffic, etc. Each app can have it's own widgets to use. This is in addition to icons at the bottom of the screen which act as your "launcher" and is always on top when your home screen is up. My S3 has my most often used icons there. My Nexus tablet running stock Android 4.2 actually has nested launcher icons so all of my Google icons are grouped in one folder in the launch bar, frequently played games in another and so forth. It is very flexible and I can tailor it to just how I use my phone.

In addition to the home screens, there is an applications screen which is essentially an inventory of all of your applications and is similar to the iPhone's pages of applications. Except that you can do things such as sort them automatically. You can also group them into folders, same as iOS.

This along with screen size and Google integration was enough to bring me over from the iPhone. I have to say I also really like the way Google handles music on the Play Store. Purchase it there and it is played from the cloud or downloaded. You can also then instantly listen to it on any linked device.

What SQL said....

And yes, that was a joke/troll/etc. And you thought it was funny.
