But he was also famously wrong. :biggrinjester: The few times I have bet on horses (company invites to suites at the park) I have won more than I bet. I am way ahead but several hundred dollars based on less than $100 total bets.

Glad I worked from home yesterday...am sitting in the office here in Town Square today a couple blocks from where this went down. Also, the deceased is being identified an a drug cartel attorney. More at: http://www.nbcdfw.com/news/local/Southl ... 01151.html

Some of the witnesses were identified by name on air by the news reporters. Knowing what I know now, if I were an eye-witness standing 3 ft away when it happened, my answer would be "I know nothing. Didn't see a thing. Don't point that camera at me. Gotta go."

Then I suggest you liquidate your assets and spend every day at the track. I'll await your successful results. ;-)

No, no, nope, aint going to happen. I only wish I were skill and not luck. I don't have the first clue about betting on horses or sports. There's a reason I quite and it was only because I got lucky.

I always avoid any reporter. This just confirms why.

Now as a chl holder think if you were there and saw what was going to happen and intervened in a cartel hit and prevented or took out the hit man.

Ya, I have always figured I would help another if I was able, this has got me re-thinking that idea. We could have prevented a crime however at the risk of ourselves and our families. So back to the drawing board on making decisions when to help.

I've seen and heard it said many times over that the police are not there to protect us, only to come after the crime and take the report. We as CHL holders carry a handgun every day to protect ourselves, not the general public. Why should we be any different than the police? Had I been there and seen what was going on, I would have been putting as much distance between that incident and myself as fast as I possibly could.

I'd probably buy a lotto ticket.

Methinks it probably went down so fast, nobody would have had much time to intervene. I know the only time I was outside and heard gunfire close by, I ducked down and hightailed it back inside.
I was taking a smoke break at the bar I used to manage, and what turned out to be a drive by into an unoccupied Volkswagen (?!?!?) bout a block and a half away went down. I certainly ran away from the gunfire that day.

This right here. I think unless you were standing right there on the sidewalk as a man in a mask with a gun in his hand was walking "towards" you (but actually towards the SUV you happened to be standing in front of) then you would not have had time to react.

Also, where do I go to collect my winnings? It looks like drug dealers was the winning horse.

I too felt like I would probably help if it was blatantly obvious someone was being victimized and I had time to react. This type of incident gives me pause and makes me reconsider.

On the other hand, this is exactly what has helped the cartels get the stronghold they have in Mexico. No one, not even the police and military, feel they can take a stand against them out of fear. At some point, even though we do not have batman licenses and regardless of our CHL status, WE THE PEOPLE are going to have to be willing to take stand and defend ourselves. It won't be long before regular American citizens become the targets and the cartels won't just be killing each other in the USA.

I wonder if anyone would have tried to help the soldier in London that was getting hacked to death. Just think if a citizen would have had a gun and been willing to help. I find it ironic a man with knives was killing another unarmed man and people (police officers) with guns had come to resolve the situation. Piers Morgan just doesn't appreciate the irony and decided to invoke the double standard.

Crazy world we live in. Time for good guys to take a stand.
