True. However, if they dont have the guts to stop minting pennies, it doesnt seem likely theyll stop printing dollars.

The problem is that we haven't had cold, hard cash money in general circulation since 1964. Paper currency is not cash. It's not dense enough to be cold, nor it capable of being hard. Cash is coinage minted in precious metals, Gold, Silver, Platinum. The term "cash" developed during the pre-eminence of the Honorable East India Company, and is based on a Sanskrit/Persian word karsa/karsha which were units of measurement for precious metals.
The Federal Reserve Notes that are used as legal tender only have value if everyone believes they do, just like bitcoin only has value for the folks that believe it does.

Only my wife and she has every 7 letter word ever used in Scrabble memorized.
As a "promising" young student I used the word "cash" incorrectly when asking a question of a member of the Federal Reserve Board of Governors during a forum in Philadelphia. My prof was so embarrassed by the question and the less than complimentary reply, that I spent most waking hours for several weeks researching "cash" and producing a "weighty" paper on the subject. My "promise" as a student plummeted as a result and I was no longer "invited" to forums or conferences that required listening to pompous, bloviating, self satisfied "experts" as they delivered the revealed truth on economics and monetary policy.
