I work for a small ISD, and none of our facilities or campuses are posted. An adjacent ISD (which is seriously TINY, the graduating class was around 6 people for them last year!) does have their "High School" facility 30-06'ed at one entrance, though.

I don't see the big deal with the signs. The schools around here have them as well. While a CHL holder should know they cannot carry, we all get busy during the day and somebody might forget as they rush to p/u their kid. Seeing the sign at the door could jar their memory and save them from taking a ride for carrying in the school.

I agree completely... Go ahead and post - it just serves as a reminder or at a minimum makes us "think".

The problem I have is many post on their entrances to the parking lot, not just on the building. That makes people that don't know any better believe that the parking lot is off limits as well.

Aware me. I know we are talking about a school but I know a business can post the sign and forbid carry in the parking lot.

The school is a government entity and is prohibited from being able to enforce a 30.06 sign. You can carry on grounds that are not the building or have a school function going on. So, the parking lot is not off limits and a 30.06 is not enforceable for it.

I think that if the school district posts the sign at the entrance it is enforceable, government owned property or not as the wording says property not premises but that's my thoughts not case law. so far the only one I am aware of the charges were dropped so no case law. The argument continues about school property being government or not, until that's really settled its going to be a grey area in the law

To a point, I agree. My three-times-a-week bike ride takes me close to two different school properties. The kids from either school can all over the bike path so when school is in, I'm concerned that their being their could be a "school sponsored activity" and some over-zealous enforcement would lead to me sitting in the back of a police car. I've decided to take my chances on those rides and limit my arsenal to the a big can of pepper spray. Aside from those rides, I never leave the house unarmed.

I'm amazed at how I can be a law abiding citizen 98% of the time and be pre-judged as a potential criminal the other 2%. Of course, then there is the Post Office and COE land so maybe it isn't 2% after all. :banghead:

A private school or university can post to make the entire campus off limits.

A private university can't their employees. Private school is defined in the parking lot law as K-12, so a private university would not be allowed to take the exemption.

I accidentally the whole thing but the parking lot law applies only to employees. A private university can post their entire campus and it applies to everybody walking around campus except LEO, and if posted properly (not just 30.06) could also apply to vehicles in the parking lot except for employees.
