And, judging from Perry, Strauss, and Dewhurst, neither is voting Republican.....
You have missed an all-important distinction: at least with Republicans, you don't go BACKWARDS. And for the record, in my personal opinion, I do not consider Strauss to be much of a Republican.
Except for Reagan and Bush, you're right.

My my. Aren't we testy.
You might want to rethink your position given what typical dems are throwing out there.
You mean Fudds?

Whine as much as you like, but Texas has never had a more pro-gun governor than Rick Perry.
It's not his pro-gun stance that bothers be. I do admit he's a bit on and then silent on gun rights, but I think it's just nature of politics and he's only got so much political capital.
He could be 2nd amendment 24/7/365 and I wouldn't necessarily vote for him on that alone. There has to be more... It's the lack of more that has me concerned.

My not-so-sneaking suspicion is that your next vote for Perry would, coincidentally, also be your first, so I'm not too sure he's going to miss your vote anyway.
As for me and mine, we will just keep hoping Greg Abbott decides to join the primary fray.

The Democrats in 1995 are not the Democrats of today. (A Democrat Governor vetoed a CHL referendum bill in 1993.) Look at the Platform for the Texas Democratic Party. There are no more Democrats, only liberals, Republicans and Tea Party supporters in the Republican Party.
Also, look back at the gains we've made under a Republican majority.

Thank you, Mr. Cotton. That was going to be the next thing I posted, but you beat me to the punch.

Debra Medina, Greg Abbott, Tom Pauken....seem like some good alternatives are available....

Debra Medina has never held office, so we know nothing about her other than sound bites. Perry has signed every pro-gun bill put on his desk. Debra Medina worked on Ron Paul's 2008 Presidential campaign and for many if not most folks, that's a very strong negative.
Tom Pauken could be a viable candidate, although he too has no political track record. He has a reputation of being a "staunch conservative," but that's not based upon any actions as an elected official.
Greg Abbott would be an excellent Governor. As AG, he has proven he is a strong Second Amendment supporter.
Remember, gun owners are understandably upset with Gov. Perry solely because he has not added gun issues to a special session. There can be no other legitimate complaint about him on gun issues. There is absolutely no assurance or even the slightest indication that any of the three people you mentioned would have done so either.
Chas.

I've got no issues with Gov. Perry, generally I think he has done a yeoman's job, he could be better he could be worse, but after this amount of time, I know what I'm going to get from him, and that is half the battle. Case in point Marco Rubio isn't what he "appeared" to be.

I think many gun owners are frustrated that Perry has given minor lip service to gun issues instead of using his bully pulpit ala Reagan or Richards. Add his focus on his POTUS run and his hob-knobbing outside the state on the state's dime....and you see how many Texans are ready for a change.
I don't think we need a Democrat like Davis in office....but we do need another choice in the GOP primary
