How stupid for him to forget the enemies of the constitution are in charge now.

we went last friday
saw all the signs for no firearms
i had a small 2" folding knife in my pocket and they had a small cow, but were very nice and
asked me to take it to my vehicle
I returned and they let in front of a long line and we had a nice visit
obtw
wife had 5' nail file in her purse....they asked about it but let her in
to be honest the knife i didnt think was an issue,
it was my fault,
but did lock the pistol in the safe in the vehicle
had a nice dinner at the original campisis, been eating there since I was 6....yum yum
parking at the library was horribly small

We are planning to go soon as part of a group. I'm driving. My wife is limited in walking distance and I wasn't sure how close the parking might be. I'll lock my EDC and knives in the car but that prompts another question: Is the parking lot like the parking lot at the Post Office? I assume that only the building is Federal property I don't want to unintentionally do something wrong.

Since when is a pocket knife considered a weapon? A pocket knife is a tool and cannot be a weapon until it has allegedly assault someone. Sorry, I am offended with weapon.

Count me as another uncool "tacticool" old guy who likes comfortable well made britches. I started wearing 5.11s when I joined the VFD and had to get some "emt" pants for class, and really liked them (I didn't get the real emt pants, they have too many pockets). They are well made, last a long time, have handy pockets, and are very comfortable. So basically all my casual pants are either blue or tan 5.11s, color depending on occasion. ;-) Shoot, everyone and their brothers wear cargo pants or cargo shorts, and few of them are as well made as the 5.11 brand.

I had a security guard at a Social Security Administration building get excited and tell me I could be arrested for the "weapon" I was carrying. What weapon? I took all that stuff off in the car. Turns out it was the leatherman tool on my belt. No magnetometer there, if it had been in my pocket, no problem.

At the George H. W. Bush library/museum in College Station, I stopped by on the way home from a week of training at the nearby fire school. I was in my "full tac gear" [/sarc] with blue 5.11 pants, class B shirt with my badge and FD pins and name tag. Guards smiled and waived me right past the scanner.

It's all security theater, aimed at people who are no threat. Hasan, Alexis, or any other thug, disgruntled employee, or terrorist will walk right past, or right over, most of these security checkpoints. Tactically speaking, best not to frequent such places.

Incorrect.
"Bill of Rights: valid only where explicitly allowed by law"

Be aware, that Library is near or on the TAMU campus. If you're in College Station, it's very easy to end up on campus.

Talking about the George W. Bush library in Dallas, not the H.W. Bush library. And, so what if the libraries are on campus or near campus? It's not illegal to carry on campus as long as you are not in a building or a school sponsored function is occurring.
