It may take a little time but you do get used to it. As you get used to it- you make changes to make it better.

You'll get used to it. The only time I notice my gun is when I don't have it on and that isn't very often.

I would encourage you to be sure to wipe it down when you take it off in the evening. I have gotten lazy a time or two and have found little spots of surface rust. Since then, I've gotten much better at wiping it down regularly.

All good advice; will add to that with a recommendation for Eezox which has always worked for me to keep the rust off of the slide and other metal hardware. I also fill roll pin holes in polymer frames with melted crayon wax then smooth it off flush with the surface of the frame, which stops rust and stuff building up inside the holes.

I keep a container of "Rem Oil Wipes" by the cabinet I put my gun in at night. They are coated in oil. They come in handy for a quick wipe down. Just be sure you don't have a round chambered while wiping...LOL. Might catch the trigger.

This was a very excellent and practical advice. I was actually thinking, if I need to use something like that for wiping.

Questions:

1.How sparingly (or excessively) do I need to apply that?

2. Do I need to avoid anything specific (besides the handle)?

I drop the magazine out. Eject the round from the weapon, leaving the action locked open by the slide lock. Then I just wipe off the entire gun. You can twist it up small and push it into the barrel and chamber if you want. I don't use them every time I carry. Only if the weapon is getting lint all over it or if I have managed to sweat on it. I have used them for several years and have never suffered any damage wiping the entire weapon. I typically carry a Glock or a PM9. I have also used them to wipe down my Kimber Rapter. I typically avoid rubbing on my wood gripps with the oil. I don't know that it would hurt it but I don't want to risk discoloring the grips.

One wipe is usually good enough.
