I don't care if people smoke their butts off as long as I, or mine, don't smell or breathe their cigarette smoke. Cigarettes give off a most noxious fume. Pipes and cigars not so much.
And yes, I agree that we're all probably gonna' die sooner or later from something or another. ITMT, I don't want to smell or breathe another's exhalations.

As a former smoker I can tell you that smokers have NO idea how much other people dislike second hand smoke. I do smoke cigars but not around anyone who will be offended.

I'm not a smoker.Oldgringo wrote:I don't care if people smoke their butts off as long as I, or mine, don't smell or breathe their cigarette smoke. Cigarettes give off a most noxious fume. Pipes and cigars not so much.

I support your right to kill yourself any way you deem to be your favorite. I want the same support. I don't look down my nose at smokers, unless they're one of the variety that I find _______ lit cigarette butts out the window here in central Texas... Those guys and gals deserve a special place as I've been hit by their lit butts on a motorcycle and I've seen countless fires started.
I don't think it's any different than allowing me to jump out of perfectly good airplanes. It's risky, it might get me killed, but as long as I'm not bothering anyone else with the behavior, I see no reason why both of us can't enjoy a risky past time.
However, I don't jump out of airplanes on to your plate at dinner, where I might hurt you. As such, I believe that some level of legislation is necessary to protect me and my kids from obnoxious behavior in public. Yes, I could choose to go home, but I'm not the one impacting someone else. Want to smoke? Do it where you're not possibly hurting someone else and you'll have my complete and unfettered support as long as you're off the welfare roles!
