I love to watch Keeping Up Appearances and Doc Martin, both UK shows. Hyacinth Bucket is simply hysterical. I watched it last night.
The one American comedy show I really like is The Middle. This show, just cracks me up. It fits my family in the age groups perfectly and the teenage drama is right on.

The wife won't let me watch it if the kids are even in the house. Sat through the first few seasons while deployed, i don't think i've laughed so hard in my life. It's definitely a weird bit of humor.

I liked the "IT Crowd" and another British comedy, "Peep Show." I also like "The League," an American comedy, and "Archer."

I've not heard of many you've all suggested.
I'll be looking at all of those I've not already watched.
For undiluted weirdness, ya gotta watch "The League of Gentlemen", very dark and very funny and at times hilariously raunchy.

The plot revolves around various groups of people who are trying to recover a missing car containing the bodies of dead aliens in the trunk.

"Shaun of the Dead" is great!
I also liked "Pee Wee's Big Adventure" especially the scene at the biker bar when he dances on the bar to the tune of "Tequila".
Also, "Absolutely Fabulous" was odd and very funny.

My favorite TV series of all time is Yes Minister, and the sequel Yes, Prime Minister, English comedies from the early 80's.
Incredibly well written and superbly cast. You can get CD/DVD of the entire series, and books. We watch the entire series about once a year or so, still.
It helps to have some idea of British government workings, the functions of the PM and Members of Parliament etc.
The series portrays the tensions between the elected MPs and the entrenched Civil Service in hilarious conflicts.
"If they don't know what you are doing, they won't know what you are doing wrong."
"The three articles of Civil Service faith: it takes longer to do things quickly, it's more expensive to do them cheaply and it's more democratic to do them in secret."
and many more.

If you like Simon Pegg, and you like guns, you might like "
Hot Fuzz":
