Like Longtooth, my first "real" job meaning one I got myself rather than one my dad set me up with at the company he worked for, was at the Gibson's in Beaumont. I worked in the camera/sporting goods dept.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane. I miss my Gibsons adventures!

I worked for Globe Discount City in the 60's and early 70's and being a discount store with a Colt franchise we could hardly move them. I also worked at a Gibson's in Corpus Christi long ago. I remember on Sunday's we had to rope off sections of the store because of the "Blue Law". But back then you could buy a hand gun at Walmart.
I still stop at the one in Kerrville nearly every time we are in town. One of the few places I can find #11 percussion caps.

Oh man, I'm looking for some reason to go to Weatherford now. My wife would actually go for it, we both talk about how Gibson's was a treat when we were kids. I couldn't get there fast enough when I had birthday money to burn! All my family came over for Christmas, and it was inevitable that the story of me getting lost in Gibson's was going to be shouted out for the millionth time. I was 4, and Gibsons was as big as a giant wharehouse in my mind.

When I lived in Illinois, they have these stores called Blaine's Farm & Fleet, my wife used to say it was Gibson's and Tractor Supply combined. Total heaven. We bought ammo, ice fishing gear, blue jeans, boots, camping gear, candy, toys, trailer hitch, dog food, and live bait! My wife made me give up Farm and Fleet for Lent one year!

I bought my first rifle, a Remington Nylon 77 .22 cal, at Gibsons back in the 70's. I didn't realize there was one in kerrville. Sounds like an afternoon road trip just for the heck of it.

If y'all plan a trip out sometime, try to plan it around the Peach Festival, Christmas on the Square, Christmas Parade, Homecoming Parade, antique shopping, etc... We are like a big, small town. Always something fun happening.

Back in September, my wife was still recovering from surgery and the doc hadn't ok'd her to go back to work. I had some vacation time on the books, so we took a road trip. We decided on New Orleans...lol.

We gassed up on I-20 around Kilgore and hit the road. We just said, "let's drive until we see someplace we wanna pull off and see". No joke, we saw the sign to a PigglyWiggly with a Gatti's sign right under it.

We both said, "NO WAY!" almost simultaneously...lol

I walked into the PigglyWiggly and said, "it SMELLS like a PigglyWiggly." you know the smell...the smell of the refridgeration condensation settling in the lenolium under the dairy coolers that never really can be gotten to to dry it up...lol.

Brought back memories...gonna have to go back home to Wichita Falls via Weatherford next time.

The Weatherford Gibson's is great. During this latest ammo and components shortage, they have been the only place I've been able to find primers. Their gun prices are fair. My 1911 came from there about 7 years ago or so.

And yes, Boo Rays is a great cajun place on the north side of Hwy 180. We usually order a Seafood Platter and a Catfish Platter for the four of us and have leftover (and I have twin 15 year old boys who like to eat!!!). Great food at great value.

I saw Boo Ray's when I was driving there. It was my first time in Weatherford (I think) but plan to go again next time I'm up that way and I think I'll try the Cajun food.
I saw stuff in Gibson's I hadn't seen for years. They have "oil cloth" by the yard and wood grained (and other patterns) self adhesive plastic covering/shelf liner. Someone was always asking if I needed help finding anything.

I grew up in Weatherford, and my family all still lives there. My first five or six guns were purchased at Gibson's. They have a decent selection, but their prices aren't spectacular. They also don't have a lot of things in the way of holsters, targets, etc. What they do have are the old school cap guns in the toy aisle. Those are fun.

You can't go to Weatherford though and not go a few blocks south to the pizza place. I could live off Rogers pizzas.

I talked quite a while with a lady at the store and she made a point to tell me about the cap guns. I coming back up that Wednesday and I hope we have time to go again.
