[quote="healthinsp I don't understand why you cannot just take the Texas class, send in your Ga license and get a Texas after a background check.
That would make sense to me.
I didn't know that that was an option! I haven't seen it anywhere and nobody mentioned it. I'll have to call DPS on Monday and get it all straightened out. I just started putting my paperwork together this weekend and thought I'd have it all ready to go before the week started. If sending in my existing "expired" CHL works (it's good for 7 years...it's only expired because I moved) then I'd be happy with that.
It all boils down to the "Born out of Country Documents". It appears than people born outside the borders of the US are required to continuously provide proof of citizenship even after becoming a citizen.
This doesn't really bother me. It's NOT just me. My wife had to prove she's a citizen too - except she has a birth certificate so it's easier. Having left hardcore Communism and followed all the immigration rules I totally understand the value to an American citizenship and think that Americans have every right to guard it with utmost efforts. The thing is, it's usually not a problem...just a couple of months while my Passport expires and then it's just a mild inconvenience.

Interesting.... The site censor doesn't censor bad words that are connected by an "_" to other words. But put a space in front of the "_", and you get the censor kicking in.
Just sayin'........
Oh, and welcome to the forum, uh....... Mr. Ferguson.

I'll admit, I had to look it up.

OP,
I had a similar issue as I wasn't born here but became naturalized.
I sent in a copy of my passport and a copy of my naturalization certificate (both in color) My passport was not expired. They accepted both without question.
I'd get my passport renewed and then send in both. It's what I did.

you need to look at form CHL-40 "Notice – non-immigrant - visa" from Downloadable Forms.

Do you have to send both, or will one or the other do?

I don't get it. He's a US citizen. Why does he need naturalization papers? Just check the box for Yes, I'm a citizen, and move on.

I would have but it specifically asks for birthplace not whether or not you are a citizen.

People born in a foreign country need to provide that paperwork. Native Americans don't.

I would be careful with making any copies of naturalization certificates. It states on those Do Not Copy. A passport was granted to you based on that certificate. No need to send in the certificate. I know a person that only sent US passport. That was all that was needed.

I have wondered the same.

I ended up sending in both. I called the INS and was told that I could send in a copy (color) of my naturalization certificate IF it was being requested by a lawful entity. I was specifically told NOT to send in my original. I was also told that it was not to be copied for any other purpose.
I have seen where other people have only sent in a copy of a valid US passport as well.
