I would much rather see a person read the old topic and then weigh in with their quesitons or views vs a totally new thread being created and people have to post their views and input again. That helps the new member by consolodating any new material or views and the Mods by not having to look over the new posts that have actually already been posted before.
I was going to ask this question of you all, what would the rest of you rather see? Would you rather see someone start a new thread, or reopen an old(er) (ancient) thread and give it new life.

IMHO old threads have value in that some of the posters in that thread may not be around anymore.

It's a common practice by trolls and spammers. Some people do it occasionally, but when the majority of someones posts are in dead threads it's a warning sign to me.

Maybe N00bs tend to use the SEARCH function so they don't create a Topic that already exists. Just a thought :tiphat:

Sometimes I have even learned something new from myself! :smilelol5:

A necro thread gets a new post, I am merrily reading along, and suddenly find myself reading something I wrote 2-3 years ago and had totally forgotten I knew anything about it, much less had written about it! :anamatedbanana "rlol"

I just want to know if you've argued with yourself? ;-)

TAM,

Quite a few years back while out in my Boston Whaler Montauk, my wife and I were slowly cruising through a Clear Lake Marina when I spotted the name "Quark" on the stern of a large sailboat.

The owner was on deck and watching us as we very slowly passed by, I hailed him and asked if he was a physicist?

He enthusiastically responded yes and that mine was the first inquiry ever regarding his boat's name. I got a big thumbs up!

I saw that boat, but thought he didn't know how to spell Quack.

I just added a reminder to my calendar to resurrect this thread on 2/19/2017. :reddevil

I really don't care one way or the other. It keeps me on my toes and reminds me to pay careful attention. The question may be relevant again or not. What I find even more interesting is a thread about resurrecting old threads. It is interesting to see what my opinion was a few years back compared to today. ;-)

:iagree: That is a very good observation. I have observed the evolution of some of the forum members over the years.

I take it the sailboat owner was not named Armin Shimerman.

I am of two minds on this. First I am glad to see that the new members are looking for the info rather than just asking something that may have been asked and discussed 2,000,000,000,000 times. On the other hand I seriously think that some of this zombie threads may bite me, especially the one where the necromancer's post is trying to correct someone on the law which matched the thread when it was originally posted but has since been changed by the legislature. Now where is my zombie lever action rifle and my zombie max ammo...? [NOTE: I don't own any of those items, but think I do want a nice lever action]
