I am a friend of snail mail; :cheers2: But not like the Pony Expreess they use .
It's funny you say that and knock the Pony Express on April 3, it's founding day in 1860...

I heard that anniversary earlier tonight on "Texas Overnight" as Jones was signing off in his "this day in history" segment.

I am trying to email a CHL-8 according to the instructions on the bottom of the form to
https://www.txdps.state.tx.us/RSD/contact/default.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I get a failure notice saying that Outlook mail doesn't recognize that as a valid email address.
Anyone else not able to email the form? The old forms had a fax number if I'm not mistaken.

Email addresses don't have "https" at the beginning, and all email addresses have an @ symbol. Clearly what you see is a web address and not an email address.

You can fax, scan and submit to the link, or mail.

One can always find difficulty when one looks for it. Appears you found it. DPS has made things MUCH easier for instructors.

It's cheaper for us, and probably simpler for DPS for us to upload forms, but that contact form is far from simple. It is absolutely ridiculous for us to have to enter all that "required" information, including mailing address(es), email address, phone number, and DATE OF BIRTH, for Pete's sake! (I grit my teeth every time I have to enter that.) Also, I've never seen a site that uses a three-step process to upload files. Select the file, upload the file, submit the form. That is one step too many, and results in many missing the upload step, and sending the form with nothing attached.

They could easily add an entry to the second drop-down for "CHL Instructor Upload" that would only require the entry of name and instructor number, and the filename to upload. And since name and number are on the uploaded form, they could probably even do without that.

Try telling that to the DPS. The CHL-8 clearly says at the bottom:

"Please email this form to RSD at: https://www.txdps.state.tx.us/RSD/contact/default.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; within 5 days of class completion."

The DPS will also accept a "photo"/.jpg of the form you wish to send in.

And, if you enable the "form auto-fill" function of your browser, you wont have to "fill out the form every time" you send something in.

I just don't see the need for complaining. I guess we could go back to buying certs for 5 bucks each and having to mail everything.......

Which would be a backward movement. So you think everything is just hunky-dory as is. Ok, I disagree. I think it can be better. It won't improve unless people complain.

I email all my forms to:

RSD_Customer_Relations@dps.texas.gov

I always get a response back from someone at DPS saying they have received my attached forms and will be forwarded to a CHL specialist for review and processing.

Submitted a lot of forms this way and haven't had any problems yet!

TBM, it was my understanding that the email address we were using was closed down since email is an insecure method of information exchange, and the forms contain information that could be considered confidential. Namely, lists of potential CHL holders names and DL numbers. I'm surprised that you've gotten it to work. I'm wondering if any other instructors are using that address.
