Sad to say, I once was an strong supporter of the police, but over the past few years I have reluctantly become less trustful. I know we have fine LEOs, but they are being tainted by the BGs. The GGs must step up and stop covering for the BGs.mamabearCali wrote:You know if I filed a false police report that got someone arrested, there would be consequences for me. Perhaps we, as the taxpayers and the ones that sign the checks, need to consider in cases where it becomes obvious that the police officer purposefully filed a false report consequences for them as well. We need some checks and balances here and we don't have many that do not include the taxpayers footing the bill.

Well, it is, but so far I think that view is mostly confined to people who are paying attention. When (or hopefully "if") it gets bad enough the even the "unwashed" masses view "public trust" as a farce and a sham, we will be in a world of hurt.JP171 wrote:you mean its not now?mamabearCali wrote:chip chip chip....that is the sound of public trust being chipped away. I am not a lawyer, nor have I played one on TV, nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, nor should anything I say be taken as legal advice. If it is important that any information be accurate, do not use me as the only source.

If that video is even close to complete then this does not look like a good arrest. The only possibility I see is that the guy interfered earlier and the cops waited to arrest while taking care of the original arrest. Otherwise it's just wrong.

One of the dash cams should be able to tell if there is more to the story.

I'd proffer the "unwashed masses" are already there.Dave2 wrote:Well, it is, but so far I think that view is mostly confined to people who are paying attention. I know when I lived in the joyous nonHollywoodesque portion of Southern California, the police were viewed at best as an occupier, at worst as just another gang who's colors were black instead of blue or red.
Re: Man arrested for videotaping arrest behind glass.
Whenever there are cop stories in the LA Times you can see in the comments how much hatred there is for the police in Southern California. And it's not all that new. The LAPD had a horrible reputation back in the 60's when I lived in Southern California.Cedar Park Dad wrote:I'd proffer the "unwashed masses" are already there.Dave2 wrote:Well, it is, but so far I think that view is mostly confined to people who are paying attention. Indeed. I had a better view then that, but I wasn't deathly afraid of committing DWB either, which was a known crime in those parts.
EDIT: Like everywhere, there are good and bad cops. I view things more as a management problem. For example, in certain jurisdictions the shooting of pets by police have never been penalized, and it occurs often. In other jurisdictions, better policies and management limit that sort of thing to real threats to officer safety.

I don't know if police departments are like schools. I have found that if you have an exceptional principal at a school, you have dedicated teachers and students who succeed.

In my opinion, when there are problems in any institution, it's always the result of incompetent or corrupt management/leadership. I've never seen or heard of an institution filled with great leadership that sucks because of the bad underlings.philip964 wrote:I don't know if police departments are like schools. I do not hate LEO's. Far from it. I simply do not trust them unless I know them. They don't blindly trust the citizenry either so I think that is a fair trade.
