How do you know this? Open carrying a rifle looks vastly different than open carrying a handgun. Infact I'm sure most probably wouldn't take notice as it's not as obvious.

Thats wishful thinking. A store will just ban all weapons. They're are not going to be picky.

If they can put up a gun buster sign that keeps people from carrying guns in a manner their customers are bothered by then they will. Most businesses will not put up a big ugly sign that simply keeps out something the customers will never see especially if it does nothing to keep out objects that customers can see...

Aaaaaaaaand...... we're back to the crux of the actual debate, to whit, how will legalized OC affect CC, and what to do about signage? OC will never pass in Texas without addressing signage requirements. Those signage requirements would have been a WHOLE lot easier for us to address if OC demonstrators had not reminded the corporatists that they are going to have to donate $$ millions to anti-OC candidates, and reminding the insurance companies to modify their liability policies to forbid CC on the premises they insure, etc., etc.

The legislature will HAVE to address this, and the VERY BEST we could have hoped for would have been a separate "big ugly sign" requirement for OC. But as long as OC demonstrators continue to rub the public's nose in this issue, the two likely outcomes will either be (best case) a gunbusters sign for OC, or (worst case) a change to the wording of 30.06 to include OC.

And THIS is what comes of irresponsible activism by those lacking in realistic political wisdom.

Considering that TSRA will most likely be pushing an OC bill this session (Those of us who are spectating can't say for sure until it happens), and considering that we know who typically writes TSRA legislation (Thank you for the work you do Charles!), I am fairly certain that 30.06 will not be modified/altered to include OC.

I think the best we can hope for is 30.06 applies only to concealed carry and 30.05 applies to open carry.

(1) the basis on which entry on the property or land or in the building was forbidden is that entry with a handgun was forbidden; and

And that's the second half of "the best we can hope for".....a second "big ugly sign".

But, the question still remains: are we talking about licensed or unlicensed OC? My personal goal is still constitutional carry, but I also still think the incrementalist approach is the wisest and most permanent.

Can Open Carry Texas live with that? I'm not optimistic.

I am in favor of constitutional carry. Where I live there is OC of handguns....was in petco last night and a family walked in and the man was OCing. No one even noticed.

However I am also in favor of the art of the possible. It appears that long guns are scaring the crap out of people in TX.....If your tactics are creating the opposite effect of what you desire...time to rethink and retool. I would recommend OC rallies with empty holsters, or the bananas. Here in VA we protest our polls being illegally closed to OC with empty holsters.

Get what you can giving up and little as possible. Y'all have good gun laws on the whole. Don't sell it all for a pipe dream.

Actually the best thing that could have been done from a demonstration point here in Texas to get OC passed is NOTHING. If we would have simply used the same tactics that worked to get our CHL laws passed we would have OC in 2015. Now that seems very unlikely.

Your statement that no one noticed is wrong because you did. Others possibly noticed also but had the same reaction as you. As long as the person wasn't brandishing, who cares?

Actually I didn't (being occupied with keeping four children from destroying a store). My husband did. However there was no panic and no worry. That was my point.

You know, we currently have a solution for people who want to carry a handgun but not be obvious about it...
