sounds to me like the cylinder latch bolt is out of spec, or damaged. It's easy to diagnose if you open up the gun. If that is the issue, the part is pretty inexpensive and easy to change out .... might take a little bit of fitting, but easy. If it's under warranty, send it back .... a S&W should NOT malfunction that early in life.
