I'd like to see him tell the local PD, Sheriff Deputies, FBI, FAMs, and SS officers that.

Its clear from the email that this person is anti-gun and uninformed.

They made the rules without consulting the membership.

Ask for a copy of the bylaws. This will tell you how policy is made. It may be that the person who made the policy in the first place violated the bylaws in the first place.

Then take your case to the board of directors and the general membership. If its like most YMCAs, you should be able to get the policy voted out. You will need to find out who the board members are, look at their bios, and then approach the favorable ones. Same with the membership.

I am a member of two local national gyms. I carry into the facilities, disarm in the bathroom stall, then lock my gun in my locker using a heavy duty lock, then reverse the process when I leave.

When I lived in OK, I went to a YMCA for two years. One of my workout partners was a SGT in the local PD and due to locker issues he kept both his pistols in his workout bag that he carried around on the floor.

Even better is to find out who their major donors are.

Cross reference with major CHL supporters.

I find myself more and more concerned about the areas we fail to protect and the target it creates - namely places with high numbers of children and very low resistence - if any - to an attack. An elementary school or a YMCA offers the nut or terrorist a VERY easy target with the added advantage of striking at the highest fear of our population, the safety of our children. Why private and government policies insure and advertise this vulnerability is truly beyond me. I have never heard of a hostage situation taking place at a gun range or police station, but school shooting is almost an annual event. I doubt that is a coincidence.

You could never test this theory, but I would bet a business that advertised "All licensed gun carriers welcome - the more the merrier" or better yet "10% off for all licensed gun carriers" would be extremely secure from the nut or terrorist.

They would just go down to the local public school instead.

I was thinking the same thing.

Seems like the 'antis' do NOT consider that Many of the CHL license holders are:

Judges
Congresspersons
D.A. 's
Law Enforcement Officers
Bankers
Clergy
EMS
Military
etc.,
etc.
etc.

ITS NOT TO SWIFT to be insulting many of the top Citizens of Texas.

THEY ARE some of the Best people to HAVE ON SITE IF THINGS GO SOUTH!!

It is sad that a few 'do-gooders' can put so many children and adults in danger in these times, with all of the proof of terrorists and nut cases targeting places with weaponless victims.

The above CHL holders ARMED while attending schools/colleges and businesses etc.,would surely REDUCE the danger to all.

Perhaps the 3006 sign should be printed on a large RED BULLSEYE TARGET. (Seriously)

If a shooting occurs it won't be with a stolen CHL's gun.

It will be done by a bad guy with evil intent. The Y's wishful thinking is the only straw they are holding

I am sure someone could compile many more if they were willing to take the time to search. If nothing else specific instances of shooting over the last 10 or 20 years at YMCAs should be more than enough to shock who ever sees them.
