The Houston Chronicle appears to be doing the "Nothing to see here - keep moving on" work on this.

I seriously doubt that any legitimate gun club requested this. It is written in true anti fashion, and is clearly a stealth measure to kill gun shows, because:

- It applies to almost every gun show venue. The venues have many other clients and most have alcohol licenses.

- As Alice pointed out, who would buy a gun at a gun show where you couldn't take possession of the gun when you could visit a dealer's shop and make the purchase in one trip?

- It would end ammunition sales at gun shows and further undermine the business case for vendors to make the investment to attend.

This one needs to go down in flames.

Texas could start allowing alcohol sales at gun shows provided they don't allow live ammunition or let buyers take possession of their weapons at the events.

The proposal also would require that firearms being shown for sale be disabled and not readily convertible for use.

Not likely. The new provisions would cripple the gun shows. It's more likely that a gun club requested the change but didn't realize what the ramifications would be.

I found the section on historical reenactments especially interesting since I used to reenact WWII and the Civil War.

I find it curious that especially in that situation that TABC is enacting rules that have nothing to do with their mission because they can.

Sounds like they need their hand slapped and car keys taken away from them.

I hope this serves as a warning that gun owners in this state can't afford to be complacent. We're not as red as many think we are.

Isn't a zip-tied gun readily convertible for use? I can't imagine any non-permanent modification that would not be readily convertible.

Since they can't deliver the guns at the show, they would be able to install the pins before delivery. Duh.
