What to do with hug greetings while carrying

I'm also subject to hugs at church, as I carry a G19 IWB. I don't think I would ever use this, but I thought it was clever:

"Its a medical device."
"What kind of medical device?"
"A thorasic perforator."

"A thorasic perforator? What kind of medical device is that?"
"It's designed to apply additional pressure to the internal organs and reduce blood pressure"

I read glocktalk too. The sad part is I wonder how many people today still wouldn't "get it" and would just nod and continue on with their foggy lives.

Really bad halitosis would also solve the problem. Eat nachos and drink skunky beer the night before church (in moderation, of course).

I've also learned to hug low. I gravitate toward their upper waist and force them to put their arms closer to my shoulders.

keep a bianchi speed strip in the other pocket.

If someone is going to be upset over feeling my carry gun during a hug, they're not the sort of person I WANT to hug, anyway.

My aunt Evelyn gave me a hug one time, and wrapped her arms firmly around my lightweight commander in the cross-draw shoulder rig.. she was speachless for 5 seconds ( a new record ) and said something like 'oh my' and nothing else..

it's the random "pat on the back" stuff that you can't see coming...

Yeah, the random stuff worries me. Yesterday I was sitting on the couch next to someone describing his recent experience in Morocco when he started talking about the cab rides there. Thankfully I had my arms to the side, because when he shuffled on over to demonstrate how tight it was. If my arm wasn't there, he definitely would have felt the XD at 3:00. Since he's somewhat anti (as evidenced by his stance on carrying at college campuses), I was really nervous! I later adjusted my C-TAC to about 5:00 while nobody was looking.

I guess I may have to expand what the concept of "concealed" means to my close church friends. But maybe I'll try the Thoracic Perforator line. Seems I'm already being typecast into a gun nut, as evidenced by the options I was given while judging a round of "Apples to Apples", where people take turns judging choices of associations. I got like three gun-related ones that were pandering to my interests.

just remind the church going folks of the 1999 incident at Wedgewood Baptist in Fort Worth, where some anti-christian nut shot up an evening youth bible study class.. you just do it to protect the children..

Nervous? What for? If someone did that and proceeded to give me grief over it, I'd just tell them to mind their own business.

Know who you are. As the saying goes, "be comfortable in your own skin." Take the high ground and hold it. If someone is going to get flustered or embarassed, let it be the other guy.

After all, they are the ones who are ignorant - not you.

I agree, but at the same time, there are plenty of occasions where I just don't want a confrontation. one of those "even keel" moments.

I'm 6'2" and a telephone pole, so its usually the bloused out shirt thats covering.
When it comes time to hug at church (all the old ladies just love me... ) I glue my elbows to my hips and hug with the forearms. Not the full on hug they were expecting, but better then nothing.

Haven't been hugged with the SmartCarry just yet, but I'm sure it'll happen and I'll be truly offended if they find that!!

Some of the ladies on the Women & Guns forum have discussed such an issue with the smart carry. Most agree that they don't want people confused over their gender.

... I'm carrying a subcompact XD-45 on a C-TAC, usually 3:00 to 4:00.

Now that the questions were answered....Where did you get a SUBCOMPACT XD-45? I checked the Springfield site and didn't find anything but Compact .45s. Did I miss something?
