The question is not about a valid or invalid attempt at a 30.06 sign, it'a about a generic gunbuster or 'no guns' sign.

I follow the law. I respect 30.06 signs and reasonable attempts at such sign. I am not trying to skirt the law as MDA may suggest. I follow it beyond the letter. Those that don't want guns on their property should do what I do. Follow the law. Post the correct sign. The sign required by law. Shopkeepers/business owners, don't ignore the law and then complain when I follow the law.

There are also some property owners that post a gun buster to appease the antis while giving the nod to CC. Let's not forget that.

But I also contact the owner to find out their purpose in posting "trash" signs that have no meaning. If the owner is running a scam on the insurance company, I might patronize again, or if they just don't know the law, maybe, but if they tell me that they consider it a valid sign, I card them and never go back.

I need to make a flow chart for easy reference, but here is how I make the decisions.

30.06 on Private Property- contact property owner.

30.06 on Public Property- contact City Attorney

Old 30.05- contact no one

No Guns or Similar- contact no one

51% posted incorrectly- contact TABC through website. I never say anything about my "2A Rights." I simply say the sign at XXX location appears to be incorrect.

Please don't do that either. If a business has an invalid 30.06 why notify them so they can make it valid? It would be nice to go to another business that is 2A friendly, but that is not always possible. If they do not follow the law regarding a sign, please don't bring it to their attention.

Now if it's just stating that you won't do business with them because they oppose 2A, make it less safe, etc... that seems OK so long as no one is informing them that their sign is invalid in the process.

Hello TVGuy. I'm the OP of this thread. I appreciate your concern, and I do understand your precautions. But, for what it's worth, I can assure you that I am not a troll in any way, shape or form. I'm plenty old enough to have learned a long time ago that nothing good comes from me poking at a bear with a stick, and I've already got plenty of problems that I created by accident without going around looking for more trouble!

Nope. Just a genuine question from a new CHL holder. Just one of my ways of gathering information. As in all questions I have about how to do a new thing, I will try to consider the question from different angles, then I will try to get input from different people, and ultimately I will seek the guidance of God's Word, and try to be open to where He leads me to go based on all sources that He has used to teach me. Simple as that.

So again. Nothing sinister. But sincerely, thanks for your concerns. As I've stated before, I am new to the CHL world, but I do understand that certain groups are very unhappy about the "common masses" being able to be legally armed, and I know that we must always be vigilant about what how and what we say, to whom, about that subject.

The biggest reason I walk past the gun buster signs is because I just don't see them and I don't look for them. The reason the law states that the sign has to be as such is to protect us from missing inconspicuous signs.

I can see that it was a legitimate question. There just seem to have been some strange goings-on here recently. (like the guy telling people it was legal to OC while traveling). Welcome to the forum!

I disagree. If it is their intent to prosecute you should you be caught, despite the invalidity of their signage, then they should be forced to post the big ugly sign, and if they know that their sign is invalid, they also know that they are eligible to be sued.

Why would you pass a sign that was nowhere near compliant if you knew that there was a possibility that the owner would at least attempt to charge you with trespass? Why would you give them money? Why wouldn't you want your fellow CHL holders to know that "Here There Be Dragons"?

We have had this issue hashed out many times before and no one has ever convinced me to change my mind.

My favorite was one that was posted on some mom & pop burger joint IIRC. This was in 2004 and I had just started carrying, and did not have a cell phone with a camera yet... The "sign" was on a 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper, in big bold letters:

Besides... I was carrying a .40 cal, not a .30-06.

This is what I do if possible. I am not interested in spending the money to argue over a 1/4" in letter height. Now if the wording is completely wrong or the old wording, I'll make a judgement call and do what I think best.
