If you have to ask the price, you can't afford it ...

Stories like this make me very grateful for my kids' school. My 7-year-old boy had show-and-tell day and decided to bring something without consulting mom or dad. He innocently decided to show his classmates his brand new knife. His wonderful teacher basically said "Very nice knife. Why don't you let me keep it at my desk until you go home?" Other places he would have been escorted out in handcuffs.

Can't be letting them children have an imagination, now can we?
As far as his other suspensions go, I don't understand how bringing a book to school could get you suspended, and some African American people prefer to be referred to as black. That's what they're called everywhere else in the English-speaking world.

The pinheads that do stupid things like this don’t realize they are creating future citizens that resent authority.
Parents need to keep up on what is going on in school and pay more attention to school board elections.

So thankful that the public school my kids attend couldn't care less what they wear (if they wear anything at all), what they read, what they eat or when they eat, if they have their phone (or even if they are on their phone during class), doesn't care if they show up late as long as they get their work done, etc...
My kids school has never had a reported fight, never had a need to call the police, and I can whoop one of my boys right in his classroom without anyone calling CPS (not that I would ever need to).

You know, inasmuch as this first appeared in a NY paper, it is a reflection on all of Texas not just the idiots in Kermit, Odessa or wherever it {allegedly} occurred.

Then again....that might not be a bad thing. Think Woodstock....but with better ideas and goals.

What the heck is wrong with schools in Odessa?
Texas boy suspended for saying he could make classmate ‘disappear’ with ‘Lord of the Rings’ sorcery
The ring little Aiden brought to school may not have been the true ring of power, but it had enough controversy to get him suspended from a Kermit, Texas, school.
Kermit Elementary School officials called it a threat when the 9-year-old boy, Aiden Steward, in a playful act of make-believe, told a classmate he could make him disappear with a ring forged in fictional Middle Earth’s Mount Doom.
{——SNIP——}
“I assure you my son lacks the magical powers necessary to threaten his friend’s existence,” the boy's father later wrote in an email. "If he did, I'm sure he'd bring him right back."
{——SNIP——}
The family moved to the Kermit Independent School District only six months ago, but it’s been nothing but headaches for Aiden. He’s already been suspended three times this school year.
Two of the disciplinary actions this year were in-school suspensions for referring to a classmate as black and bringing his favorite book to school: "The Big Book of Knowledge."
Odessans has better start worrying about what is happening to their school district.
Discuss....
Seems very logical to me. The schools are generally run by liberals and liberals are ruled by magical thinking.
