Carl, for what its worth, my oldest grand daughter has this happen about once a year. After a week or so on antibiotics, she is back to her old self.

Prayers for you Carl. Every now and then I get a really sharp pain in my ear and wow does it hurt. An astute observation of mine is that as I age, the more the physical problems accumulate

I had many ear aches when I was a kid. Wouldn't wish it on anyone. Prayer going out for sure.

Prayers for you Carl, I know the pain.

I suffered from horrible ear infections as a child, the result of swimming in the creek that the cows used. I had multiple fungus infections and perforations, and once my other "lost" a wad of cotton in my right ear which stayed there until the next school physical when the nurse declared that I was deaf in my right ear. We went to the ENT and all he did was wash the impacted cotton out, and v'oila I could hear again.

I also suffered ruptured ear drums in both ear while in the Navy, the result of inadequate hearing protection while firing the big guns.
