Basically yes , and you would want anyone with access to it (wife or kids) to be named on the trust

I already contacted an attorney who specializes in NFA Trusts drew up and sent me the paperwork. When you set up an NFA Trust you become the Settlor. I cant explain as well as my attorney did but a member here gave me the contact info. Tomorrow I go get everything notarized and its done.

When you add a Trusteee they can legally use your NFA firearms. It also designates beneficiaries, etc.

You are the settlor (originator of the trust), so you have full access to and use of the item/s - as do any other trustees.

I started to do this stuff too - as fun toys can be provided... Then I figure out that most of this stuff is not transportable across state lines without an application and permit from each state that you'd be traveling through...

I missed this post before, but it's not correct. You must request permission from the ATF to take a machine gun, short-barreled rifle, short-barreled shotgun, or destuctive device out of state, by submitting a form 5320.20. Prior permission is not required for silencers or AOWs. The ATF will approve such forms for up to a year in length, and processes them much faster than form 1's or 4's. A 5320.20 I submitted earlier this year for a trip I took in May was returned approved in just over 2 weeks. With mailing time both ways they processed it pretty quickly. No approval is needed from a state unless it's your destination and that state has some sort of state-level registration of NFA firearms (which is a small minority of states). Most states just say NFA fireams are legal if federally registered, or they're illegal. If a state is not your destination, then you may legally travel through that state with your firearm under FOPA even if the gun is illegal in that state (though I'd suggest finding an alternate route if possible).

So educate me more. I make yearly trips to a northern state and I was under the impression for silencers, I had to apply.. And each state had to allow me to carry those silencers though.
Note, this is for a driving trip, not a flight... Am I misinformed?

For silencers, no ATF permission is needed. Silencers just need to be legal at your destination.

It's really easy, hardest part of the entire process is getting it engraved gotta find someone local who can do it or ship it off

I had a lawyer setup the trust for me who does a lot of nfa trusts(Chris's bass he's on ar15forum) I didnt want to rely on a standardized form when it comes to atf

Mine took about 6 months but it was before they did eforms

One thing to keep in mind is to build what you will keep. If you build a 7.5 300bo sbr you better keep that upper because you have to be able to restore back to what was registered, length and all ( they require a measurement of entire length of rifle including stock)

One thing to remeber is once you get into registering things with the atf you have to notify them if you move, etc

I used Chris as well, I'm almost 3 months into my wait. I haven't heard anything back from the powers that be so I assume all is well until I hear something different. Chris delivered what he promised and I would use him again.

I'm on day 98, hoping for first week of September. Some 5/1's were approved yesterday according to the internets.
