In fact, if someone is carrying illegally, they are not committing an additional crime by walking past a 30.06 sign. That sign only applies to license holders. A non-license holder could not be charged with violating a 30.06 sign.

Right, but why only put up the signs for certain events? Does that mean that for the events they do not put the 30.06 signs up that they will allow me to carry since I have a CHL? Doubtful, but curious.

That has been my experience. I carry at events that are not posted, and store my gun in my car when events are posted. When events are posted, they typically use portable signage affixed to long tables that they use as lane barriers and purse inspection stations.

So I'm about to head down there for a 6:30 show.

My daughter is going to reconnoiter before I get there and text the results.

Followup: Daughter said "All clear" so in we went.

Inside I spotted a small, non-compliant paper sign at the stairwell. grrr Marginal, but I started back to the car a vlock away. On the way out I took a better look and saw a permanent, metal, compliant 30.06 sign affixed to the chin link fence between the ticket booth and the entrance. That settled that.

Looks like I need to update with my recent experience at the House of Blues in Houston. Policy now seems to have changed for concerts in the main concert room - bag search for all shows and wanding for what appears to be some shows. Although I'm now a little confused about the wanding policy. As I said earlier, I was wanded at a Jamey Johnson show in March - not necessarily surprising given some of the audience he attracts. A couple of weeks ago, the wife & I went to a tribute band show (Weez Hur and Faux Fighters). We were bag searched and wanded for that one. Last night we went to see ZZ Ward - bag search but no wanding.

At all 3 shows they've posted close-to-valid 30.06 signs in that they are clearly visible and contrasting. But I'm not 100% sure that the size is correct. My guess is that if someone were to try to enter with a concealed handgun and discovered, they'd be verbally notified since you now have to walk past a bag check/wand before entering.

Just called up there. They said there is a 30.06 sign posted out front.

Whether it's code or not, I dont know.

I'm surprised people will tolerate the wanding/bag search indignity. And, by that I mean I would forgo the pleasure of attending an event where I spend my money if that's part of the event. No thanks.

Funny how some royally complain about a 30.06 sign at a business, but I hear no complaints about being wanded and bag searched like you're at the airport and the heavy hand of TSA is something you're willing to put up with and actually pay for...

If the majority of people simply said no, if being wanded/bag searched is part and parcel of attending, they won't go.

How fast do you think they might change that policy?

Understand where you're coming from, and I even agree........ but here's what would happen: The 2%-3% of citizens with a CHL (assuming all of them carry all the time, which isn't the case) seeking to enter would be quickly and easily replaced by an equal number of people who are not CHLs. But even if they weren't, here is the total seating capacity at the Dallas location: As you can see, the entire venue, all rooms combined, can accommodate 2,200 people. That means that if ALL customers with CHLs were either turned away or failed to show up, they would be potentially down by between 44 and 66 customers at most—and given that only a subset of CHLs carry all the time, it would be even fewer than that. Out of a crowd of 2,200, that's nothing.

The point being, there is no financial incentive for the HoB to change what they are doing. If they change, it will be because it is the right thing to do; and how often do big corporations change their minds about the carrying of firearms because it is the right thing to do? Almost never. That's how often.

While yes, when you consider the CHL numbers, they're aren't enough of us to protest by our absence to make a difference.

I'm rather astonished at the number of ALL of us, that meekly go along with being treated like we're in prison and the guards can demand we bend over and cough...

I am fully in agreement on the wanding thing. I consider that an invasion of my privacy. Sometimes I have no choice but to submit to it, but I let them know I don't like it. If possible I just ignore them and walk on by. Usually works.

I'm the same way about having my receipt checked when I've paid for goods, and I'm walking out the door with my property.

Wasn't there a 20 page discussion on Loss Prevention stopping you on the way out of a store back a couple years ago.

"Shopkeeper privilege" (apparently somewhere in the commercial code) VS. "What are you going to do if I don't stop?" (i.e. unlawful detention, kidnapping, false arrest).
