you know i went from wanting a night force to buying a vortex. i have 2 of the 6-24x50 FFP Viper PST. I like them a lot. I think you should consider getting a little bit nicer scope since you will probably have it a very long time, but i do understand just not having the money for it.

Not sure where you are planning on hunting but when I went Elk hunting it was in rough country that didn't allow mechanized transportation, ( not that it would help much) We packed in on horses with mules an walked everywhere from there. Scopes that have minimum magnifications of 3.5 or 4 are larger and heavier than those with smaller starting points. I never shot an elk beyond 250 yards so I guess I don't know much about 400+ yard elk rifles but I always considered a 270 Win or 308 win as minimal elk medicine. What I do know is that carrying a heavy rifle scope package gets old real fast. Remember they don't put air in their air! I used Leupolds in 2x7 and 2.5x8 did what I needed.
