This report says the suspect's mother is saying her son is innocent. He also hasn't been charged. The cops continue looking.

As always, the story evolves. Never trust the 'facts' in the breaking stories until the dust settles
The news conference on Fox earlier this afternoon revealed that while a person of interest was questioned, no suspect is in custody and the Sheriff appealed for witnesses to come forward.

The person of interest has now been charged with the crime.

i watched this unfold early this morning and throughout the day.
Really sickens me that this officer was executed/murdered. just made me madder than heck

prayers to his family..
i cant imagine the loss and confusion..

the killer was arrested..but then the reports were at least 7 persons may have witnessed it and did nothing to come to the officers aid or render the killer immobile..

what the heck is going through these peoples minds?

Capital Punishment is on the books for those cases. Cold blood murder, execution style.
While It might seem to be so, Beruity, in this case it probably is just a case of one sick person, who has a fixation about law enforcement officers. It seems that he has a history of attacking LEOs. The fact that he is black is probably a random roll of the dice, as there seem to be such warped minds of all races in the country.

Survival instinct. Most people are not physically or mentally equipped to interceed in such a violent situation... They're the sheeple that everyone around here keeps talking about. They exist, quite oblivious to the world around them, worried about their own self, and what they're going to be doing in the next few immediate minutes. The chances are that there wasn't a sheepdog present.. a CHL, another LEO, a military person, just average Joe's and Jane's that were "asleep at the wheel".

The suspect had several convictions. Would his possession of a gun be illegal?

I looked at his criminal record and don't recall seeing any felonies.

Well, at the point he possessed his handgun to the extent he displayed it in public at that convenience store that would be a Class A misdemeanor imho. Of course he is now facing capital murder.

I also wonder how he obtained the handgun...Did he pass a Brady check?....I doubt it.

Stumbled across this amazing event by fortunate accident.

Image

I"d been in Conroe, attending the NRA Basic Pistol Instructor's course (what a great course, btw). Might have been a good idea to catch the news or a traffic report during the drive home, but opted to clear my head with loud rock n roll instead.

Made a quick decision get a look at the memorial before going to the house. There'd been nothing there Saturday morning. Made it down Telge with no trouble or clue, until I reached the gas station. I don't know the numbers, but there were easily several hundred people gathered.

I thought there''d be something, but nothing like what was going on.

Hit the boot collection for the family at the intersection, with only a slight delay, and turned onto West Rd. I'd been completely distracted by the scene at the gas station and had no idea what was around the corner about a half block away. Came to a quick stop and snapped this picture at the head of the procession.

It stunned me, to be honest.

Rolled down the windows and took off my ball cap. Other than the echo of the news choppers overhead, and the quiet rustle of a large group walking down the road, it was mostly silent.

What a wonderful statement against an evil act, and the only time I've been content to be stuck in traffic.

I'll also say that it was mighty dusty.
