Gov. Terry McAuliffe plans to announce Friday that Virginia will restore handgun reciprocity agreements with nearly all states, in a stunning reversal of firearms policy that angered Republicans and gun rights advocates across the nation.
The about-face is part of a deal that McAuliffe (D) struck with Republican leaders one month after Attorney General Mark R. Herring (D) severed the right for gun owners in 25 states to have their concealed carry permits recognized in Virginia.
In exchange, Republicans will agree to some concessions, according to McAuliffe’s office and the office of House Speaker William J. Howell (R-Stafford).
If an individual’s Virginia concealed-carry permit is revoked, a permit from another state will not be honored in Virginia — a practice known as “state shopping.”
State police must be present at all gun shows to administer background checks in private sales of guns on a voluntary basis.
Anyone subject to a permanent protective order for a domestic violence offence will be prohibited from carrying a firearm for the two-year life of the order.
The policy changes will come in the form of bipartisan legislation before the General Assembly.

Well...it was posted in the Other States forum, so presumably it is germane to people who carry in Virginia. I also pointed out that the Texas LTC is one of the ones that will still be accepted.
Yeah, but what does all that have to do with being germane, or frenche or irishe or even italiane?

I think there are some germanes in that there commonwealth.

My favorite part is the antis are upset because no one told them about the action.
“Now he’s preparing to cave to them,” the message says. “As far as we are aware, there is not a single gun violence prevention advocate in Virginia who was informed about this deal before it was done. We all stand in opposition to it.”
So they stand in opposition to this action, which will prohibit those with permanent protective orders against them from possessing firearms.
Now why would they oppose actual common sense laws? As far as I'm aware, permanent protective orders go through a judge and have actual due process associated, and it's not something that can be done on a whim.
The fact is, they just don't like that they weren't involved, and the fact that reciprocity is being restored. They don't care that good will come of it in terms of actual safety for domestic violence victims. They sound like complete children.

Not sure I am a big fan of this part unless it truly is "voluntary". And wouldn't the governor already have the ability to assign state police to a gun show, or any other event, and to have them provide free background checks upon request? I'm not sure why this needed to be part of a compromise.

That was my favorite part too.

Federal law already prohibits firearms possession by someone subject to a protective order, so doing it at the state level is just adding suspenders to the belt. What the antis really want is for law-abiding gun-owning citizens to be oppressed.

Is the Governor required to notify gun violence prevention advocates? What are gun violence prevention advocates? Do they have special VA I.D cards? Are their phone numbers listed on the State web site so the Governor doesn't have to thumb through the phone books to be able to notify them?
And who is this person that obviously knows all of the gun violence prevention advocates in the state that can positively state that none of them were informed. Are Virginia legislative meetings closed to the public? Maybe they should attend one every once in a while and see if they can pick up information that way. Obviously the Governor doesn't have their phone numbers.

Oh, it gets worse...for the gun control crowd:
(via Clayton Cramer)
Virginia Gun Carry Deal More Expansive Than First Reported
Emphasis added:
New details revealed on Friday show the gun carry deal between Virginia Republicans and Gov. Terry McAuliffe (D.) is more expansive than first reported. The Virginia Citizens Defense League (VCDL), one of the state’s leading gun rights groups, said in an email to its members that the deal would not only restore the 25 reciprocity deals Attorney General Mark R. Herring (D.) had planned to eliminate but also expand Virginia’s recognition of gun carry permits to all states.
The deal also pushes back the attorney general’s reciprocity deadline from Feb. 1 to March 1 and will require the attorney general’s office to enter into any reciprocity agreement offered by any other state, removing the discretion that allowed Herring’s unilateral action.
One caution: This a deal, not yet a law. Legislation has to be passed to implement this.

Oh, and Bloomberg spent a lot of money to buy himself an anti-gun attorney general and governor. He must be well into bovine birth right now.
