Our Constitution is much stronger than Obama thought, it has stood the test of time so far, and this joke of a commander in chief is not going to weaken it. I worry far more about what state governments can do to our right to keep and bear arms, as they are the ones who really have the power to restrict gun rights in their respective states. And I thank the Lord that I grew up and live in Texas, where the voters make sure we keep leaders who respect the rights of the people.

We have 4 Supreme Court justices that have said that you have no individual right to keep and bear arms. One more appointment of a liberal judge by a liberal President and the Constitution will mean nothing.

Every time the president or liberal media anti-gun folks talk about gun control and making new laws they create a gun problem. Everyone that doesn't have a gun runs out and buys one. There's a fact for you.

America DOES NOT have a gun problem.
So sad to read such things here. We agree that there are hundreds or thousands (!!!) of deaths which could be avoided - parents, children or grand-parents. And you honestly want to argue that there is no problem?!? Every single one of them is a tragedy on its own!
I have lived in the US for quite some time - and reading that makes me very sad. I am afraid you guys have a VERY SERIOUS gun problem...
Who are "you guys"? You're either an American or you're not. Maybe you'd be happier back where you came from?

Did Obama just announce his latest EO? I just turned the tv on and it appeared he was finishing up an announcement. Couldn't tell if it was live or previously recorded.

Here is an article on what I saw the end of earlier. His announcement of EO is "imminent" and expected next week.

Obama, Lynch and Jarrett, eh? That sounds like a racist, muslim plot against the white folk. I am offended!
Where is the gutless GOP majority, out trying to get re-elected?

With what happened in CA on the first and now the E.O.'s the left is just chipping away at our rights a little at a time. If you read different forums you would see that a lot of people are for what they are doing in CA and I am sure that people will not care that much about his majesty's executive orders, but that will be another chip off our rights. Reminds me of that old poem first they came after xxxxx and nobody did anything then they came after yyyyy and still nobody did anything then they came after me and there was nobody left. I feel that what's happening now with gun rights.

This means you have a 0.00010256410256410300% chance of death by gun.
Let's break those numbers down:
60% are suicides. That's 19,200
3% are accidental. That's 960
4% are justified. That's 1,280
33% are homicides. That's 10,560
80% of homicides are gang related. That's 8,448
That leaves 1,712 in a society of 312 million people.
If you don't hang out in the hood, are not planning to commit a crime, and if you do not plan on committing suicide, that chance drops to 0.00000548717948717949%
America DOES NOT have a gun problem.
On the other hand if one looks at the Firearm-related death rate due to homicide per 100,000 population per year as compared with other developed countries we don't look so good. For example, our gun homicide rate is 59 times that of UK, 7 times that of Canada, 22 times that of Australia, and 50 times that of Germany. This may be a time when we don't want to be a world leader.
Cornyn has a bill that would improve the Federal database for mental health data. How about that? Note that the bill does not cover all sales. Everyone agrees that people with mental problems should not be qualified to own a gun but we don't seem to get serious about it. Strange.

Pretty ridiculous to focus solely on one object when we should be looking at ALL homicides - unless one has an agenda, of course.
Good point
Australia:
big increases in the number of homicides

They shouldn't. Total homicides per 100,000 population should be the measure.
But we also need to note there are no consistent standards for violent crime reporting among countries. As John Lott has often noted, there simply is no way to accurately compare crime stats. And areas in the U.S. that skew our numbers up are areas that strictly regulate firearms, like Chicago, Detroit, Baltimore, D.C., etc.

We can't even get standardized reporting here in the US. Recently it came to light that some city (Chicago?) didn't report a crime as a homicide until they had a conviction.
Edit: Here is the CDC report,
Deaths: Final Data for 2010, which is the latest year available.
The 15 leading causes of death in 2010 were:
1. Diseases of heart (heart disease)
2. Malignant neoplasms (cancer)
3. Chronic lower respiratory diseases
4. Cerebrovascular diseases (stroke)
5. Accidents (unintentional injuries)
6. Alzheimer’s disease
7. Diabetes mellitus (diabetes)
8. Nephritis, nephrotic syndrome and nephrosis (kidney disease)
9. Influenza and pneumonia
10. Intentional self-harm (suicide)
11. Septicemia
12. Chronic liver disease and cirrhosis
13. Essential hypertension and hypertensive renal disase (hypertension)

Assault (homicide) dropped from among the 15 leading causes of death for the first time since 1965.
