Texas state route 124 goes south from Winnie, and 87 goes the length of the Bolivar peninsula.

I know it's probably too late, but the Kemah boardwalk is a LOT of fun. I like to go there on a sunday and sip margaritas and watch the yachts come into port. Joe's crab shack also has a really fun boat ride. You get on this huge speedboat and go around the bay at 50MPH. It's pretty cheap too since you get to ride for thirty minutes for about ten bucks. Plan to get wet though...

Kemah is not in Galveston, but it's a pretty close drive (20 minutes). The woman and I always take a day or even half a day to drive over there. http://www.kemahboardwalk.com/flash_con ... ntent.html

I also like to go up on the roof deck of the Tremont hotel in the Strand area to have a couple of drinks in the evening. Super nice place and you can take your drink from the downstairs bar with you to the roof deck. The restaurant is good, but the service is poor for such an expensive joint... Willy G's down the street is great. For a great cheap meal, go to "the spot." Awesome burgers. Another hidden wonder is the Mosquito Cafe. Trust me.

I'll add that there is a small amusement park at the Boardwalk. I don't know the age [abbreviated profanity deleted] your daughter, but my son (5) really has a ball. It's easy to spend a good afternoon there.

Have a safe trip.

Yeah, I always forget the children aspect, since I don't have any. If I was a kid I would definitely enjoy the little midway they have there. Not to mention tons of shops with little toys and trinkets.

We had a lot of fun at the Rainforest Cafe...Good atmosphere, its a bit pricey from a certain standpoint, but the fun is the good staff that keep things interesting, and the animatronics and "thunderstorm effect" keep you interested...I think the kids would love the place...

Bring your checkbook, lots of nick-nacks to buy if that floats your boat...

Try the "Volcano" dessert...They have a lot of fun bringing those out to your table...

We are leaving first thing in the morning for Galveston. So this is timely for me. We'll be RVing it. Thanks for all the tips.

Cool. Some of the best times I've ever had have been in Galveston state park. I love that you can get up and just walk a few steps to the ocean. I'll be getting my RV pretty soon. Probably be starting with a pop up camper. I can't wait.

We are actually staying at a private RV "resort" near Jamaica Beach. We've had our travel trailer since February and love it!

Whoa, that sure is a haul back east to Galveston proper!!!

We had family actually live down in Jamaca Beach for a few years...Taxes got to much for them...

Its nice down that way, a little off the beaten path...But still, a nice place to visit...Hope you have a great time...

I think I even know what RV park yer hooking up to down that way...

Have fun...

What RV resort are you staying at? Is that Delanera?

I'm going to have to tell my parents about this one. I doubt they know about it yet. Thanks for the tip!

Well, all I can say is I wish I could have seen these posts sooner but the advice is right on!! I got involved with getting things squared away before we left, but luckily had some great advice while we were down there. I had the opportunity to meet up with jbirds1210 while visiting and we went to Kemah for the night. Excellent place to walk around. Of course, it helps to have great company as well

I found my overall trip to Galveston to be a very "carry friendly" experience. The only time I didn't carry was in the bar one night, which I had planned on. Beach walking proved easy with the Galco belly band and Kahr CW9 with back up mag and spyderco knife. The rest of the time the Milt Sparks made daily carry a breeze, even in the higher temp/humidity.

We hit the Strand......very nice for shopping. Seawolf park was pretty cool and we could see alot of ships in the bay which was also a treat. We stayed at the Holiday Inn SunSpree Resort. I found the hotels very dull and run down, but it was the experience we were after. Way overpriced and smelled very perfumed.......more later, but it was a great trip overall. Especially with no kids!!!

Thanks to jbirds for being the perfect host. He's truly an all around great guy!!

I'm glad you had fun down there. Next time you might save up a few extra bones to stay in the tremont or the galvez (at least for one night). They are pricey, but you won't smell any cheap perfume!

I've also been interested in staying on the Kemah boardwalk in that hotel, but Galveston is much more interesting and fun. Kemah is good for a few hours and that's about it.

I hate that about hotels, but I view them as just a place to sleep and shower while on vacation.
