So my wife did good in that she finished the 26.2mi. She's hurting some but all in all, she's happy. I'm proud of her. As for the signs, they are huge, but I did miss them as k entered the hall. Must have been all the people in front of me.

Interesting day on Sunday though. We get the kids and head out to GRB where she can warmup stretch etc. We enter on the Rusk St side. The so called security snoops through bags and you go right in. No signs at the entrance (bottom floor). So I think, later when I come to meet up with her after the race, I'll take my GLOCK. So in the afternoon, I got the kids and my GLOCK, and we plan to meet in GRB in the reunion area. Well, while we wait we decide to go walk around, outside. One way or another we find ourselves on the other side of the GRB, Polk St side. And there they were: the big 30.06 and 30.07 signs. So I decide to turn back and head back to the Rusk street entrance where there weren't any signs. But I can't. The security guy was like this is exit only..,one way. Thinking like the airport? Had no idea. Now I am forced to enter passed the signs. Mind you, this is still outside. They had fences up and so they were posting the entire area, not just the GRB building. So I take my kids and walk on by, going through bag checks, outside on the GRB. Walking outside, I go to the Rusk entrance and wait for my wife outside.

If the GBB was being used in connection with the Houston Marathon, it would be prohibited under §46.035: the marathon is a professional sporting event, as professional runners are competing for cash prizes. The vast herd of urban joggers may be doing it for giggles, but that doesn't make it any less a professional sporting event, ultimately.
I see why you'd argue that, but I'd still be wary myself at that point. Texas_Blaze said he was going to pick up his wife's bib, which is directly related to the marathon, and therefore part of a professional sporting event. And the Expo is sponsored and organized by the marathon, so the vendor area is part of a professional sporting event in my eyes. I don't like that fact, but I can't logic my way around it.
The marathon is not TAKING PLACE where they hand out bibs two days before the event. And actually where it is taking place will not be a premises under 46.035 (the streets of Houston)...so you will be free to carry outside during the marathon.

PC §46.035. UNLAWFUL CARRYING OF HANDGUN BY LICENSE HOLDER.

(b) A license holder commits an offense if the license holder intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly carries a handgun under the authority of Subchapter H, Chapter 411, Government Code,
...
(2) on the premises where a high school, collegiate, or professional sporting event or interscholastic event is taking place, unless the license holder is a participant in the event and a handgun is used in the event;
I didn't notice any 30.06/30.07 signs at the GRB entrances on Sunday morning for the actual event. Security was doing bag checks at the entrance, but if I had it concealed on my person they would have never known. I left my handgun in a locked box in my car. However I didn't see anything that would have prevented me from carrying it during the race had I wanted to.

This may be like arguing the "high school, collegiate, or professional sporting event or interscholastic event" is not taking place during half time, or before the actual kick off, or the 7th inning stretch.

Some may say "that's ridiculous!" but a great many of the arguments over these things are.
Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.

If it was the day of the race I could see it, but 2 days before for the tag pickup? That's like saying the stadium is off limits whenever the grounds keeper is mowing the field.

Only if the mowing is done with a stadium full of people. That's the gravamen of the regulation.
