I read an article somewhere that says a number of local Danes have offered to pay her fine. I think she will be OK monetarily, but the situation is appalling.

No, the minimum allowed is not charging her with anything so that punishment isn't even a consideration...unless you're going to tell me that in Denmark every single person that ever gets caught violating the law is always prosecuted and discretion is never applied to any case.

In Islamic countries, the rape victim would be punished for adultery, so an attempted rape victim would be guilty of attempted adultery I guess. Those "enlightened" countries sure love to punish the victim.

I don't know how that aspect of it works over there, do you? I know in the UK they will reduce the charges down to what they know they will get an easy conviction on. I have no idea how things work in Denmark, it may be that they aren't allowed to not bring charges, might be an interesting thing to research, I don't have the time right now though.

They have not charged the guy. I guess raping people is legal there?

I can't believe that any "civilized" country would even consider charges be brought against this young lady.
Even worse is that I can't believe anyone on this forum would accept it as "that's the way things are"

The guy hasn't been caught so he's free to attempt this again and will probably make his next attack more violent to prevent being maced again . Yet law enforcement resources are being used to try to prosecute the true victim. Would you feel your daughter is safe in this country? What would you tell your teenage daughter as she left for school? Be careful and if someone wants to rape you be sure you don't do anything that might make him stop or you could go to jail!!

I think all these laws in Europe were for a more civilized time in the past, when all the liberal lawmakers in Europe were thinking about was utopian ideals.

I suspect new lawmakers will be elected, and things are going to change. I hope for their sake or we may see lots of new refugees from Europe completing the invasion that was stopped by Charles Martel in 732.

Many US states ban pepper spray. Going to Michigan? Your Texas LTC will allow you to carry your pistol there, but don't get caught with pepper spray.

Do you think they would file charges against a 17 year old rape victim in Michigan? What judge would sign the warrant?. He wouldn't be a sitting judge very long.

It appears my statements about MI are incorrect. You can carry pepper spray, or at least some types/sizes. This was not so several years ago when I had to travel there.

No, I don't know how it works there either. However, I don't believe there is any government in the world where there is no discretion to bring or not bring charges...not even North Korea.

MI is a bit confusing as to which types of pepper spray are allowed. My daughter lives there, so I researched it at one point -- it seems that some of the more common self-defense types weren't legal but some types of so-called "bear-spray" were.

We settled on a couple of types that I couldn't find to be illegal there, but couldn't find in MI either. We'll just say she has them in her possession.

She also keeps a few cans of oven cleaner and wasp spray handy in various locations as well. It turns out that those two items are completely unregulated. Perhaps not as effective as a good OC spray, but far better than a wish.

There's a solution to any who enforce such an idiotic law in a clear-cut case of self defense; tar, feathers, apply...liberally. Or, you know, get out of the EU and sack up.
