Yes you need to be polite and helpful because after all, you have sworn to protect and serve those police officers and they are ultimately paying your salary.

The problem with most police i see is they demand respect but don't give any. Hard to respect anyone who doesn't respect you.

..hasn't been my experience with law enforcement. As a rule, respectful and courteous has been the norm. Maybe I've been fortunate.
