Well, it did happen over in Europe somewhere. Maybe some people didn't hear about it.
I never listened to Deep Purple much.

2 empty cases found on the scene.
Shooting themselves in the head and not checking out... Must not be hitting anything vital.
I have heard of people attempting to shoot themselves in the head before and screwing it up. The case I am thinking of, the guy died many hours later in the hospital. It it actually fairly easy to not get the pistol pointed through the vital parts of the brain. Especially if that person tried to off themselves from the side instead of eating the barrel. I am far from any sort of expert though.

A few years back there was a case where a son shot his father in the head at close range with a 9mm and then shot himself in the head with the same gun.
Both were medevaced to a hospital in Houston. The father died the next day. Two days later the son died after he was taken off life support.

My Dad knew a Police Officer who was shot in the middle of the forehead by his daughter. The bullet was a 158 gr .38 sp. out of his service revolver (back in the 70s). The bullet traveled between the skull and the skin and lodged at the rear of the head. He died 3 days latter of brain swelling. A co-worker attempted suicide with a 6" Model 29. He changed his mind at the last second. He was left with a gouge on the right side of his skull and the muzzle flash left him bald and singed on his right side.

The case I mentioned of the ruled suicide which was no way, it was a 12 ga shotgun talking the side of the victim's head off then reloading and shooting it again taking the face off since they happened quickly and no witnesses the 1st shot could not be determined, either would have been fatal, the gunshot to the car at the drive in was in no way a normal civilian round due to the damage and entrance and exit hole sizes plus going through the chest of the victim.

They did get inducted into the RRHOF just a few weeks ago, sans Blackmore though.
