This is the second half of the statement, "I don't expect the police to do my job, and I don't plan to do their job." Your job is to protect yourself and your family from immediate threats. It is the job of the police to apprehend criminals after crimes have been committed. If you really, really want to do that second job, then you are free to apply to the police academy.

If there is an immediate threat, then shoot to stop that threat.

If there is no immediate threat, then move to safety and be a good witness.

None of this involves firing warning shots, or chasing after suspects, or anything similar.

Not only faster, but in a serpentine motion to make it harder for the shooter to hit me. You can stop and wait to see if they shoot again, but, don't be surprised to see me pass you.

Warning shots are foolish, dangerous to innocent people and a waste of ammunition. As has already been stated, be the best witness you can.

First rack the slide on your semi-auto 'cause it's a bad idea to leave one in the pipe. Then fire a shot in the air and yell "Halt, or I'll shoot". Then shoot in the arm or leg or toe or somewhere 100% non lethal. Then you'll only have one more bullet left 'cause you don't want to over stress the springs in your clip. Then of the subject is still not complying hit him exactly between the eyes or in the center of the back of his head.

Reload another clip with 3 rounds, but don't rack the slide unless the perp tries to get up, then do it and say "Go ahead PUNK, make my day!".

It happened in Chicago so you have to assume a great deal of stupidity on the part of everyone involved - from the mayor down to all the dummies involved.

I, for one, am all for warning shots... delivered center mass.

Each one says, "Stop or I'll do it again!"
