Hornady Critical Defense 115g Flex Tip is my preference. It runs fine in all 3 of our 9mm firearms. I like to practice with the same weight/feel so shoot a variety of 115g FMJ. The 115g FMJs are available at a real reasonable price compared to other bullet weights.
I tried some Nosler JHP +P but I (my fault, not the cartridge) did not have the accuracy. The +P handled much different the my standard practice ammo.

I like am using 124 gr Hornady Critical Defense. It feeds well in my 9MM guns For practice I like the Winchester FMJ NATO, Its a little snappier than the 115 FMJ and behaves pretty similar to self defense rounds in recoil and ballistics. I tend to prefer 124 grain cause I assume ( admittedly possibly falsely) because this is the nominal bullet weight the guns were designed for. At any rate this is my attempt to shoot the same in practice as I would in a defensive situation.

Speer Gold Dot 124gr +p is what I carry. I hear good things about the Federal HST as well.

I load my wife's carry gun with gold dots, 124gr, but I also like Hornady Critical Defense for short barreled pistols. There is a lot of good 9mm ammo out there, and I could name a half dozen brands that I would use without hesitation. As other's have said, find a respected brand that feeds reliably in your firearm and practice, practice, practice. There are no magic bullets. Being able to put rounds on target under high stress is the key. If you can do that, almost any round will work, but if you can't no round will help.

Federal HST 124 Grain and Speer 124 gr. Gold Dot shoot very well in my CZ PO1. I've heard several good comments about the HST 147 Grain but have never personally used them.

Another Gold Dot 124 +P customer here. Also, sgammo usually has about the best price on new Lawman practice ammo if you care to go to the range with the same manufacturer's load. I have walked out of Bass Pro with Winchester 9mm Nato for a great price as well but couldn't find it on their website just now.
But, you were only asking about carry ammo... I felt tnoutdoors9 had some great videos on Youtube when making my decision on what to carry. I also look for ShootingTheBull410 on Youtube.

In a pinch I like the Federal HST +P in my XD. However I try to stock up un Underwood's Xtreme Penetrator round that uses Lehigh Defense's bullet.

They have an extreme defender now as well. Less overall penetration, but still hits 19" pretty much no matter what.

I totally forgot to mention doubletap equalizer 165 gr+p.
Fun to shoot. Feeds reliably in g19/g26 and sig p226 platform. Little "esoteric" of a round, but I do carry that from time to time.
