This forum is a very good resource for all things carry related except actual hands on handgun training. Please, Please get some.

I completely agree with the above statement. My wife thought it was odd that I went home and read a booklet I was given about Gun laws.

I felt like it was my personal responsibility to learn and respect what I was about to do (carry)

Please take the time to get training, tons of people on this forum would go to the range with you to help hone your technique.

There are plenty of people more qualified than I, depending on your location I would be more than happy to go with you.

Joey, no one is bashing you for your question so please don't get discouraged. We all have questions, I have at times, asked questions I'm sure people wondered did I pay attention. Ask away, but also look at previous posts because more often than not your question may have already been answered.

Welcome to the forum! I'll echo that this is the best place to get good information... sometimes with tongue in cheek and fun. We can forget that sarcasm and humor does not come across online as it does in person. You'll also find we do get upset with instructors who are not doing a good job of teaching the course or preparing their students and especially those that give incorrect information.

Regarding when to shoot: below is a recent example of someone who was in fear of his life. Bad guys had airsoft guns and he was pistol whipped. But he didn't know they weren't real weapons. The test in Pennsylvania for this case seems similar to here - if a person is in reasonable fear of his/her life.

From Charles post you'll see that there are other justifiable situations to use deadly force.
