Eh, caliber? I think I'm a little more interested in ergonomics, like grip angle, and a lot more interested in the trigger than either capacity or how big the hole it makes. Obviously life has a power factor requirement, and reasonable capacity is, of course, needed.

I see the word "Yankee" and that is all that I need to know about the guy.

He is a self described liberal who supported Bernie Sanders. That is reason enough to not take him seriously.

I saw one of his videos and thought it was satire. I tried another video and couldn't tell. That was enough for me. Unfortunately he seems to get a lot of views. If knowledgeable people watch him for laughs, no harm done, but I am sure there are plenty of novices out there taking his nonsense seriously.

I doubt he can dodge a cream pie much less a 45.

I think you guys got trolled. You got lost joking about prostates, Nixon, and windshields. IMHO, he made good points about .45:
- Lowest capacity per gun size
- Generally larger/heavier gun
- Over penetration tendencies
- Other modern calibers have adequate penetration
I think he could have also mentioned that 45 is expensive and has a greater recoil.
Lucky Gunner has a great ballistics test page that makes a solid case that modern ammunition can be tuned to give you any performance you want. If caliber doesn't matter, then other characteristics become more important like gun size, weight, capacity, recoil, controls, and color.
I just spent an entire day teaching two new pistol shooters. After ground school, they shot 7 very different semi-automatics ranging from .32-.45. I gave them enough instruction and experience to make their own informed decision. When it came time for them to buy, they didn't even consider the .45. Of course, they decided what most other new pistol owners do: Glock 19 (nothing great, but everything pretty good).
I like my .45. It's "second kind of cool" (just makes me happy). Objectively, I can see it's short comings tho. I have to agree with Yankee Marshal that .45 isn't the best defensive handgun round. I enjoy laughing at him when he claims to be an agent in the matrix dodging bullets.

The thing is, the bad information on the channel is unlimited. This is but a tip of the iceberg. There are reasons I don't use the 45. You've mentioned some. This guy is a total nutjob. He has admitted to playing a chacter. I've looked into his background, the stuff he claims is false. Its bad information all around. Plus hes a liberal. It's sad because an average of 30k gun users take his advice seriously.

His only claim to fame is under his own roof where he is truly a "legend in his own mind."

Well said. I dug into his background, it's a little fishy at best. But no reason to defame a man because of his opinions.

I am a 9mm guy, I believe that platform is more important than caliber and that platform often determines caliber. We should all carry what and shoot with what we are most comfortable with and what we can shot well with. We also need to keep in mind that every gun and ammo choice is an engineering trade off. Conciderations are size, fit, capacity, effectiveness accuracy, and price.
If I lived in a state where I was limited to a 10 rounds or less, I might choose a 1911 at .45 ACP. If I dressed daily in a suit .380 small pocket gun might be a better choice. If I had small hands the fatness of most 9mm might be a turn off.. This is why we have so many choices, and why no one gun or caliber is best for everyone.

What and how we carry are decisions based on many personal considerations that are unique to our own capabilities, needs, and circumstances. As with most things in life, it comes down to which risks we are willing to manage and which benefits matter most.

I'm with you on this. One side of his mouth says, "slow moving"...the other side says, "over penetrates."
I love my .45s but have pretty much converted to 9mm as my wife is licensed back-up and really DOESN'T like my .45s...lol. I transitioned so that all the guns are friendly for her. No skin off my nose really.
It's not like, in a self defense shooting situation, you might stop the threat but be criticized for 'over penetration'...

Lots of people take The Yankee Marshall more seriously than he takes himself.
That being said, I think 9mm is a better fit for civilian carry. Less recoil, higher capacity, smaller guns, while still being a very lethal round.
