I am enjoying the parallel story lines. They initially caught me off-guard but I adjusted okay :)
Oh, I was worried about the mule as my family's default rule was that if it had a name it didn't end up on the table. Otherwise, well you know... That rule worked out well for my Dad's pet chicken, Martha, and Mom's pet pig, Ambrose. Well, not so well for Ambrose according to my grandfather but he swore me to secrecy.

Wow, I had some catching up to do today. Was working on the house and seemed like I was 50 posts behind being caught up.

When I was 14 or so, my uncle had a goat that kept jumping the fence so he brought it over to our house. We invited my aunt and uncle over for fajitas and after we were stuffed, my ain't went outside and called for the goat (I forgot its name). I don't know how he did it but my uncle some how did not bust out laughing but you could see on his face he was fighting it. 25 years later, I'm still not sure if she knows what we made fajitas out of.

DocV I wondered over putting up parallel stories but thought it might change things up . Glad things worked out for Martha , sorry Ambrose didn't fare as well !

At this point in the story who do you consider to be the main character ?

Charlie

I picked Eliasville for the story because it's perfectly situated for the ranch location . I roughnecked and drilled on rigs around Eliasville during the boom in the 70's . It's a pretty place , I fished the millpond many time on the river . Although I know it was built much later I envision the two story building on the corner downtown as the Staley's store in the story .

Zeke and your heroine are still the main characters to me. Wade and Captain Jack are next in line. I'm keeping an eye on Nate ;)

I thought you were bringing it to an end where they named the ranch and she told the mule he was a gift. I'm glad to see the story continues.
I'd buy this movie on blu-ray and watch it over and over. So, who plays the various parts? I can see Danny Glover as Zeke.

Danny Glover would be an excellent choice for Zeke , I agree .
