Lawsuits are the lever used to control people. The same tactic was used on schools to remove anything anyone else considered to be Christmas or Christian related. The amazing part for me is that seemingly unlimited legal funding for the challenging people and groups.

The article says that the lawsuits are based on incidents that happened since the 60s. That was way before SJW. What that implies to me is that the BSA, like the Catholic church, was less than aggressive at dealing with abuse. Perhaps there were no realistic mechanisms for reporting abuse 40-50 years when society as a whole seemed more willing to keep those kinds of incidents from becoming public. I'm torn between wanting to see justice done for those who were abused and wondering why it has taken so long for them to come forward. As we saw in the Kavanaugh hearings, the current environment is ripe for abuse in reporting. If BSA had a good, documented history of dealing with abuse cases, it should be easier for them to have defended themselves. The article said that BSA sued the insurance carriers several times for not living up to the obligations of the insurance in the face of the lawsuits. That has not helped their situation.

I was a long time Scout. I stopped supporting them many years ago because I believed that their leadership had lost its way. I lived next door to one of the National executives for a number of years. For me, it just another institution that didn't understand its own principals. I do believe that it is hard for us as individuals and as groups to stand our ground in the face of the onslaught of zealots and their cronies in the media. But is becomes much more difficult when you don't know what you stand for.

My son joined in 1993. At the time there was a policy that no scout leader could be alone with a boy for any reason. After joining I became a trained adult, so that I could participate with my son on High Adventure trips. During that weekend of training we had a two hour session on how to protect the boys from sexual abuse, which included the policy of no adult with a boy alone. I got a special badge for that counter abuse training.

On monthly camp outs new dads were always surprised that they could not pitch their tents near their sons. Adults were segregated well away from the boys.

My understanding that the bankruptcy is related to lawsuits, as the Boy Scouts does not have the financial resources that the Catholic Church has to defend itself and pay settlements to boys that were sexually abused. I suspect the Girl Scout lawsuit didn't help.

I think the general decline in participation has not helped. Some of that began even before the "woke decisions".

It is another abuse of the English language perpetrated by the progressive left. It means they woke up put of their stupor and got right with the socialist progressive agenda.

Boy Scouts apparently have put Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico as collateral to help fight or settle sexual abuse lawsuits.

This may trigger Phillips family to take it back.

To those who have been there or have wanted to go this is very sad news.

This angers me.

My father, older brother and his sons were Boy Scouts and then Boy Scout leaders. It is sad to see that the tradition has ended.

The Boy Scouts have had a very good system to protect scouts from abusers for at least 25 years. Are these claims from 50 year old men?
